2005 a4 no gears in drive

driving on the freeway the other night the transmission downshifted in to what sounded like third girl and wont shift anymore. pulled over turned the car of and put it back into drive and the car just revs up goes nowhere. put the car down into third and it catches and takes of at about 2700rpm. no codes have been thrown. could it be the tcc? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not good with transmissions, but the last 3 times this happened to me I had to rebuild my transmissions on both goats! In my case it was a little bit different, I guess. The car would go well, but won't shift past the 3rd, and speed is limited; while rpm flies over! (an obvious loss of clutches!)

Does it move with the shifter in '1' or '2'?

Sounds like your 3-4s might be toast. Time for a rebuild.

Well since I chimed in I might as well add my opinion. I too think that your 3-4 clutches might be bad. Especially since its not throwing any codes. Sorry to hear this. I just got done replacing mine.

Just finished my rebuild for the same reason. All go in 1-2 and no go in 3-4. That thing would rev to the moon before she went anywhere. Good luck OP. Here is your chance to really beef up the tranny.

So bought a new transmission yesterday. If I had a tune and shift points changed on the old tranny, will I need a retune?

Tune will work the same. Unless you tuned a slipping and dying trans it may need some fine tuning to be optimal. Most likely not though. Plug & play.

That same thing happened to my goat a couple months ago. I was driving a long and it shifted down to 3rd and started bouncing off the rev limiter. It wont take off till about 3500rpm and and wont shift till about 5500rpm and wont go into 4th at all.
