Tree Fell on my Goat!!!

I have always wanted a new GTO since they came out. I finnaly got the opportunity to pick up an 04 Impulse blue automatic for $8,000. I loved it, great looking, great running car! I had the car for two weeks before a big tree fell on it Thursday morning. I didnt think the damage was that bad. the roof was dented in about an inch or so around the drivers set area, the drivers fender, and drivers door were dented, drivers mirror broken off, and drivers headlight broke out. That was it, rest of the car still looked perfect. I took it to a body shop and they sent my insurance an estimate of $9000. Now I'm affraid they are gonna total it. Im never gonna get a chance at another GTO for that price. I would really like to have the car fixed and keep it. Does any one have any help or suggestions?

Ill take a couple, posibly tomorrow. From the passenger side the car looks perfect. If it wasnt for the dent in the roof it really doesnt look that bad, and even that isnt bad. Doors still open and close normally and none of the windows broke (although the front window got a crack from the fender hitting it). Repair shop said they were going to cut off the roof and replace it???

Forget about the $8,000 you paid for it. If the '04 was actually worth somewhere around $13,000+ as you're describing it, that's still a bit more than the $9,000 to repair. If your insurance wants to total it, they have to pay you what it will take to replace it as it was, just as good.

Something tells me you'll be getting chances at another $8,000 gto really soon.

The insurance company will look at the book price for your car, usually NADA. If the repairs are more than the book price, they will total it. Depending on mileage, you might be borderline.

i just went through an insurance deal through geico. i rearended another gto, costing 10k to mine and 6500 to his, they didn't total either one. they said mine was worth 18k with 56k miles on it. they run it through their little system on what its worth not KBB or anything like that. they dont go off what you paid for it so the 8k you spent on it really doesn't hold any water its what they feel its worth. just do a claim and see what they say. everyone told me mine at 10k was gonna be totaled but every claim is different.

If you have Allstate, you will be blamed for the branch falling on the car.

Is your car financed or do you own it free & clear? If you own it you can choose to keep the car & the ins co will pay you the difference between market value & salvage value. You would be on your own to fix the car (or not) as you see fit, & don't assume the title would stay clean (different ins companies & states probably handle this differently).

If your car is financed, it probably won't be that simple as the finance company will have a say also (they'll want their money since the collateral lost value).

There are a couple folks here that know more about this stuff than me, but I kept my truck & am still driving it after it got totalled by a tornado.

The GTO has 80,000 miles on it. They are saying I should have an answer by Monday or Tuesday as most of their assesment teams are on the east coast right now. The car is financed through my credit union. And the Insurance company is Alstate. So far they havnt given me any issues in the process yet. They said the loss is an act of nature. I found another local GTO for $11,500 I hope they give me somewhere near that if they total the car because it was in mint shape before this happened.

If the cost exceeds around 7-8k its a total. The bluebook on your car is roughly 12-13k so they will have to give you that much if it is so you will be able to get another GTO in that range. Really sorry that you have to go through the whole process tho.

Man I really hope this isn't a sign that I shouldn't have one, I have wanted one since they came out and one of the few people I know backing the car when everyone else seemed to be putting them down. I have owned a classic GTO a 72, that I painstakingly restored and being a GTO owner has a special feeling wether your sporting a 455 H.O or a 6.0 you are all part of an extended family almost.
