About a month ago I developed a loud metallic clunk at idle. Turns out my flexplate was broken. The crack went under the bolts so luckily it didn't separate on me. Bottom line A4 guys don't skimp when you upgrade your trans.
2004 QSM GTO: Forged 347, bolt ons, stalled auto PHK
After seeing a buddies stock flexplate on his 04 h/c/i car and saw his cracked to hell (luckly didn't fall apart) I upgraded mine to a TCI flexplate when I pulled my trans to get rebuilt. Just alittle added insurance in the end even if the stock one was never going to fail.
Umm the inspection hole gave me a clear view of the crack. I wouldn't say it's something to worry about but if you pull the Trans for any reason spend $100 on an upgraded one. It's stamped steel so repeated abuse will wear it out. GM high tech posted pics of their twisted control arms on their 2010 Camaro.
