Looking to get used GTO

OK guys here is the deal. I got rid of my GTO 4 years ago to get my sierra denali that I drive now. I have done so much to it with a whipple supercharger and stuff that I cannot get rid of it without getting screwed on trade in value. Besides I love my truck and would regret getting rid of it just like I regret getting rid of my old GTO. I am looking for something different and I loved my GTO when I had it so over the past 3 month I have been searching and searching for the right price, mileage and everything which has been difficult. I have found one finally that I am interested in picking up but I am concerned with the amount of mile and I want to get your opinions. Would you be concerned about buying a GTO that has 70k miles. Car looks clean in the pictures but I have not seen it in person yet. It is a 1 owner car but I am wondering what your thoughts are about the amount of miles. Also what areas of concern should I look for. It is a manual so I am sure the clutch would be one area but what are other. Thanks for all you advice upfront and I am looking to become an active member hear again hopefully soon.

Here are a few pics of the truck I traded my old GTO for. Granted I did not buy it this way it took me 3 years to get it the way it is in the pictures.

70,000 babied miles is better than 7,000 hard miles. Each case is different, you will have to look the car over and decide what type of life it has led.

Someone's baby, or drove it like they stole it.

If they had replaced the known weak points in the suspension and had maintenance records for the vehicle, then I don't think 70k miles is bad at all.

amazing how many people who do sell their GTOs buy back in, has got to be some sort of record. i agree with 87lc2.

and lots of people have driven far beyond 70k without significant issue.

Guilty. I made it two years in a sensible Hyundai after the BOM went away. Feeling much better now in a new to me 2005 QSM

I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage just make sure you replace the weak points and keep up on maintenance. Mine has 80k on it and now and runs like it did when I picked it up with 40k two years ago well actually better than it did.

I was going to say the same thing. With the mods, my goat is better/more fun to drive now with well over 90,000 miles than it was when I picked it up with 12,000 miles. It just has more rock chips.

Thanks for the compliments on the truck. Also thanks for the replys. It seems like these cars are holding their value now that pontiac is out of business it seems like they are all going for between $14500 and $26000 from what I have seen and the lower priced ones seem beat at times. Looks like if I really want to get a good one I am going to have to pay a decent price. The one I have been looking at is about 18k out the door price and is a 1 owner car. GMVIS shows no major work to it so that is a good sign to me. Ill keep you guys posted after I go check it out.

I'm one of the buying again folks, although my orig. 2006 I had got to 68k miles and while it was still running real well, suffered from the typical sagging springs and broken visor, but more importantly was a magnet for road debris and pricks running shopping carts into it (no joke, happened a couple times) and somebody put a nice dent on my front fender...argh. Never had such luck on any other car, weird.

It was time for the 3rd pair of rear tires, syn oils were getting $$ and just didn't have the time to address those things, but more importantly thought I'd get back into 4x4 and bought a nice hemi WK GC, but they were not the same as my 98 5.9 and only kept it a few months. traded it for a CTS-V, then that got a lot of miles and tried 4x4 again, trading it for the nissan frontier pro-4x, but it was auto not the 6-speed, boo (the good part was the lux. pkg was only available in auto).

Anyhow, I traded that for this 2004 and main reason I bought this one is 6-speed (of course), but only 32k miles and purple (love this color even more than the IBM I had) plus saved ~$150/month in payment even with higher interest...bought it as a DD cause I remember how nice my 06 was and how I never got bored of it.

Ended up losing boat loads of $$ on my 06 since I bought it new, although was glad I bought new (1st owner) since so many are abused, hacked up, etc...This 04 was stock still and seemed to be well taken care of, so got lucky.

I got another GTO. My first was CGM, A4 , and 17's. Then I got my Genesis Coupe V6 GT with A6, brown suga leather, with my crazy custom exhaust. I finally found the GTO I always wanted. 06, IBM, M6, black leather, and 18's. I'm so happy I got another one. Now I'm going to modify this one not as fast, but better. :-)

I wouldn't for a second let the mileage alone deter you. Mine has higher mileage like that and runs smooth as silk! There are usually a few quirks to each car, but its better to know them up front than find out later haha. I probably wouldn't go over 15 out the door if I were you

I have had two GTOs and my son bought one. 70,000 miles is not bad if condition and price is good. I drive mine daily. A few nicks but enjoyed everyday! 109,000 miles

I bought mine almost 2 years ago with 76,000 miles. It an 2005 CGM A4. Bought it from the original owner who was an older gentlemen. It was stock other than aftermarket 18" rims and a Varram CAI. Paid 12,000 cash for it and i dont regret it for a second, i love the car.

Almost bought a brand new 2006 BOM A4 something told me to wait though. I had them at 26,000 out the door. It would of been nice to have a brand new car on the other hand i wouldnt of had as much fun with that one verses my current one. Sometimes things just work out...

I wouldn't pay that much, but then again it seems to be a decent deal for a dealership. I have seen a few in the area with 100k+ plus miles over 20k at the dealership. Your call brah

If you can get a 6L goat that isn't completely beat and doesn't have a branded title for $10k, you're lucky.

On the other end of the spectrum, $18,300 is way too much. That's just about what I paid for my goat 3 years ago, with 37k on the clock. If you offered me anywhere near that, I'd sell you my goat (76k mi stock motor but suspension is done), and I'd throw in a set of L92 heads and a detail for you as well. And I don't even want to sell my car. $18.3K is robbery for that many miles.

Shit, on second though, if you paid for the cam kit and clutch, I'd install the heads/cam and a new clutch for you, at that price.

I just got back into a goat. Although its an 04, I payed $16.5 and it had 18k miles. That price seems alittle high in my opinion, but if its THE car you want, there's something to be said for that.

I paid 17500 out the door for my '06 bom m6 with 48k on the clock. A million previous owners, but super clean. Just make sure the car is exactly what you want, and as long as you pay what you want to pay for it, then have at it.

As for 70k, I wouldn't worry at all. I only bought mine with low mileage cause it was the best color made, IMO, and exactly what I wanted. However, I looked at some around the 100k mark too, they were just sold before I could see em. The power train is solid in these cars, so as long as you expect to do some maintenance to it when you get it, you'll be fine.

Mine was clean when I got it,but it wasn't 100% unscathed to say the least. It needed brakes, was missing a trunk spare carpet cover, had the rear sag,and a few other small things.
