tune on Svede only?

Just got a used svede otrcai off of another member and was wondering am i going to need a street tune to get the most out of my car? The car is an 04 m6 56K miles and all it has is a ported throttle body. Im also in Ca and don't wanna mess with the tune too much to try and keep it smog legal and pass easily.

To get the most out of the car? Yes, tune needed.

Tune required? No, but you'll be leaving 5-10hp on the table even without the Svede. I live in SC so I'm not up on all the smog check stuff, though.

Depending on who you go to for the smog, you aren't legal with the intake.

true but the intake is a lot easier to swap than a tune.

5-10hp for each mod independently. Together 15-17.

Go get it smogged, you'll pass. You don't show you have headers, why would you have the o2's turned off?

My tuned k&n setup yielded 330 rwhp 320 rwtq, so I say go for it, as for catless I have heard it is tough in cali but I am sure if you know somebody you can get a sticker. If your going to do any other mods go ahead and knock them out so you only tune once, headers, cam, heads, maf, udp, see sig for ideas!

If you have never done a tune on the car then go for it. Even a completely stock car a tune will wake up a car. Is a tune required the answer is no.

Handheld tuners aren't a real tune. You can tweak things but nothing like you can with a tune through something like HPTuners.

not if you own HPT
45 seconds to swap tunes or 15 minutes to swap intakes

I see your point though...if you can't load the stock tune back on easily, I wouldnt bother tuning it, especially for a single bolt on. If you had full bolt ons then yea, sure, but it's a subjective topic anyway, so take all replies with a grain of salt

So then the question becomes is the minor HP increase worth the $200 for a tune?

I don't know if you'll get for 200 bucks THE perfect tune, but if you'd spend the money for hpt, you can have dozens of hours of learning (meaning: having fun) & have later on a car with a perfect driveability/

HP Tuners and the knowledge I've gained in learning to use it have been the best "mod" I've done on this car.

A good tune isn't just a minor HP increase. It's throttle response, better fuel economy, etc., and also "maximizing" the benefit of your high-end intake. Such a fine piece deserves a proper tune.

Are these types of improvements worth $$ to some folks? Are they worth it to you? I say go for a street tune (HPT and the like) at least, Dyno tune if you have the dough, skip the handheld.

I have a predator and its good for tweaking, but not *REALLY* tuning. It also logs which is nice. Still - for the money - a street tune or Dyno is the way to go. Just MHO.

very well said, im definitely going to get a street tune and he uses HPTuners es the same tuner that worked on my camaro and i had very good results with it after his dyno tune.
