Angry Not coming back

Looks like I'm going to be the newest member of RMGTO come October. I couldn't get orders back to San Diego for my last hoorah with the Navy. I'll be going to Denver/Aurora instead. I'm going to try and make it out there (San Diego and L.A.) before I officially transfer to hang out for a couple of days. I need to pick up some things from Mav and unload my "car parts" storage unit. I'll know for sure what dates when October gets closer. Maybe someone (Robert) can set up a meet.

Yeah, I was trying to come back to SD, but there was nothing available for when I'm due to transfer. We can hang out on my way through to Denver.

I may be bringing this beater (2007 Lumina SS/Holden VE SS) back with me. I have to look into the import issues first.

If I keep her, I'll be changing the ugly yellow Chevy badges to Holden Lions. The good thing is the expensive part is done (Chevy/Holden SS fascia). It's so...(VF) Chevy SS-ish, except it has a L98 (LS2) 6.0 Litre w/ a 6-speed man pedal and no front LED marker things on the lower part. I'd rather have this than the new $58k-ish model anyway, LS3/6.2 Liter or not.

She does/will need some valvetrain refreshing/upgrades and the cluster needs to be changed to US specs (no "MPH" option on it). It already has LTs, no cats and a Borla catback. I'll have to, at least, put cats on it to import it to meet required EPA standards. The other requirement being NHTSA safety specs, which "should be" the same as the 2008 G8s. Fingers are crossed.

That is awesome. Will you be shipping it directly to CO or bring it to CA and drive it back? Would love to see her.

Not sure on the shipping yet. Even though the military pays that bill, it has to go through an importer to ensure it meets EPA and NHTSA standards, which are obviously on the coasts with the Ports of Entry. I'll probably have to pick it up in Long Beach.

So wait, there's a Navy installation in Colorado? Is this to defend against the proposed Wyoming Navy in case the state decides to go rogue?

In any event, congrats on the potential import of your "beater", that will make for a really nice, unique machine here. Thank you also, for your service.

Lol. No, I'll be on an Air Force base. When I was stationed there the first time (1998-01), I used to tell people there was an underground river that went from under the Rockies to the Pacific Ocean and we based submarines there. That always made for some amusing responses.

I'm hoping all goes well with the importing issues.

Thanks for the support. It's been...an experience.

No, but there is a rubber ducky and a rowboat inside Cheyenne mountain floating around.

Hope it works out. If it does and it ends up in LB, I have to check it out.

All of the VE SS's got the L98 (rectangular port headed LS2). Little changed on those through the years. A lot of G8 mods will carry over, as well as Holden bits. Sweet score if you can import it without much hassle.

Little update on the car...
After some discussions and research, the car wouldn't pass the NHTSA checks without some expensive (more than the car is worth) modifications to bring it to US Specs. Since I didn't want to be in a bind with regard to trying to sell it right before I left, I put up some "For Sale" signs.....and it sold....yesterday. Sorry guys, you won't get to check out an actual (VE) Chevy Lumina SS in person, but I have more pics on my computer at home if anyone is interested.

A few "we're Arab and we don't take care of our shit" issues, but overall a decent car. If I had brought it back, I'd have a laundry list of small things to fix/correct before diving into the motor. The motor had some serious valvetrain noise.

That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. Nice that it sold so fast. I will likely be selling my goat in the near future too. 7 years was a nice run.
