Costly yes, but no more so than doing a stock rebuild, at least for me with all the hard parts mine needed. I didn't want to take a chance on some used unit without going thru it either, and $1500...

Well, since my OEM T56 blew up at 107k mi, I needed to do something. I had the countershaft extension issue where you lose 5,6,R. My impression was, they just didn't design this tranny to be driven...
