I too wouldn't be surprised to see our VIP event not happen this year. GM's financial backing of motorsports events and teams is on life support as most of you are well aware.
I still plan on being at the 24, and will plan on parking in the same area as we have parked in the past. If you are still coming to see the race, stop on by!

Just because Pontiac is not picking up the tab, doesn't meant we can't go.

While we may no longer enjoy the hospitality and all that went with being treated and fed like kings, including the Tech Talks and garage walks etc, there is not reason to think that GM and or Pontiac will not still want us to be present as their guests in 2009 or beyond.

Keep in mind as support manufacturer, they are GIVEN many many tickets for use with dealers, suppliers etc and to use as goodwill and customer loyalty programs etc. They do not pay for these tickets, they decide who gets to use them.

My dad refers to this as giving someone the sleeves out of there vest. Nonetheless, we have generally been well behaved and an appreciative group of Pontiac owners and motorsports enthusiasts in the past and continue to have an interest (at least I sure do) of rooting and cheering there motorsport efforts on. In this business climate, manufacturers are doing whatever is possible to retain customers, build loyalty, and stay in touch with their owners. This is one of the best and least cost ways to do this by roping off a preferred (read free) parking area and giving entrance tickets to as many fans who want to come as possible.

I truly hope that Jon does make contact with the current motorsports marketing firm that is working with GM to let them know there are still many of us that want very much to continue to participate and be present at these otherwise lowly attended events.

Please Jon, make a proactive call to keep the interest up and our passion involved.

THANKS!

I emailed DevilYellow a few weeks back about this event (we just got the Goat this year) and he said he doubts that GM will invite us again this year due to their present situation.

I personally think things like GM test drive events, Mazda Zoom Zoom, etc are good for publicity and customers, but I'm sure they aren't interested in advertising as much but rather paying their employees $75/hr..

They pay X amount for sponsoring and part of that package includes...well, whatever is negotiated, which last year included the Pontiac Garage, the GTO/Solstice parking lot and a predetermined amount of tickets.

They may not pay face value for the tickets per se, but oh, they pay princely sums in total. In fact, they probably pay more than face value at the end of the day. Think of it as their sponsorship paying for 5% of the event, for example and that entitles them to a significant # of tickets to give out as they see fit...usually in promotions, to vendors, etc, just as you say.

I wish I had know about the suite last year. We got there just a bit late probably right after everyone went to it. I will most likely be going again this year. It was definately a blast last year.

I'd be happy with just a roped of parking area and the tickets.

I'd make the drive again.
