I am trying to install the 2006 steering wheel audio control buttons that light up on my 2005 GTO. I have the correct 2006 part , I believe, (#92507993), they plug in and all the buttons operate correctly, but they don't light up. Another GTO website has a thread that says you also have to actually remove the steering wheel and replace the 2005 clockspring with a 2006 part. First, I am not sure why since you can easily remove the switches without doing that, and then, what does the clockspring have to do with the buttons lighting up, if anyone knows. Any tips would be appreciated.

The clockspring is the electrical interface between the spinning steering wheel and the steering column wire harness.

Yup, and the 06 clock spring has an additional circuit to power the lights in the 06 buttons. You must replace yours with an 06 clock spring to get the lights to work.

Thanks to both of you who responded. So of course I go to ebay to see what I can find. I find two styles listed, 2004 clocksprings (#92147955) and 2005-2006 (#92148567) listed. Does anyone have the correct GM part number for the later 2006 version I want? Thanks

GM Parts Direct dot com /oem-parts/gm-clock-spring-92148567/ says it fits a 2006... maybe they eliminated the 2005 specific clockspring part number?
