After much debate, I decided drilling the throttle plate would be the proper remedy for correcting the surging/searchimg idle. Worked like a charm. 1/8" hole fixed her right up.

Hate to say it but your idle tune is off. Drilling should be the last resort.
That being said glad it worked for you.

Has your car been tuned? If so, you need to get your $ back, they didn't do the whole job. Drilling is the hack method of either adjusting the IAC or ETC idle air amounts.
But, if it's given you the result desired, mo power to you.

one thing to keep in mind guys is supposedly (at least for HPTuners) some of the idling airflow tables are either different or missing on the LS2 versions.

while drilling a hole is a caveman solution, sometimes its the only solution.
now if you had an 04/LS1, you should feel properly chastised!

I managed to smooth mine and get rid of what little surge there was with HPT on my 05. Sure, some of the tools aren't there, but you can make what is there work with some thought and time.

ive never done any LS2 tuning, do you have an equivilant of the base airflow running table? I assume you have base timing as well? (more timing helps choppy idles)

Don't remember off the top of my head, I haven't messed with it for a while but there are a few different variables that can be fiddled with to reach more acceptable idle characteristics tho.

This is true. Not as many tools on HPT for LS2. Ive had 2 different tuners try with the idle......adding timing....a tweak here, a tweak there. Even tried the fuel (I think) tables for an LS2 truck. There was some time put into this, but it just would not stop the idle surge. Mine may be just the one oddball with an attitude that refuses to learn. I have no complaints with my tuner...he knows what he is doing. Im glad he took the time and made every effort to aviod having to drill the TP. Barbaric as it may seem to some, its nothing new....nor is it uncommon. In this mad crazy world of auto performance....sometimes its just a matter of what works.
