For those of you with the stock airbox, you might want to check the fasteners that hold the upper housing on. Went to check the air filter element today, and found that the three screws were all finger tight from the factory...once I took it apart, found dust and debris in the top of the airbox housing. That means the engine's been sucking dirty air since Day 1. Glad I checked it at 2200 miles instead of waiting a few thousand more. The duct from the airbox to the throttle body was pretty clean, as was the throttle body itself. I washed out the airbox housing and intake tube, vacuumed the top of the filter element, and reassembled with proper torque on the fasteners (44 in. lb.). Would have put in a new element, but nobody (even the Pontiac dealer) has stocked 04 GTO air filters yet.
