Am I crazy to think...

Would I be crazy to think since I need a waterpump to do a cam swap too?

A water pump is the least of my concern.
Pulling the rad and condenser bothers me more. Then getting the crank pulley off and back on in the exact same spot.
But if you have money burning a hole in your pocket a $300 cam isnt too crazy.

this is like needing an oil change and deciding, screw it, time for an engine swap. MigHT as WeLl... lol.

(seriously tho might as well do intake manifold and heads, while you're at it. )

Nah, a water pump R&R is a lot easier than a cam swap, especially if you're upgrading/replacing valve springs, oil pump, and timing chain at the same time.

I've done things similar. Might as well do this since I'm here got me into a lot of mods with many cars ;)

And you don't have to pull the condenser to change a cam, just swing it out of the way. Easier to do with two people but one can do it.

Yes you are nuts. The question is should I do a new water pump while I cam swap with a full head job new timing set and oil pump.

And no. If you enjoy the car now leave it alone and change the pump.

I figured it might be a silly question. Thanks fellas.
The other way around. If you’re doing a cam swap then you might as well throw a new water pump on.

Greetings 2006 & all; Ok you asked for opinions. You're kind a (OK exactly) where I was 2-1/2 years ago! My plan was & since you will have the water pump off & coolant 1/2 drained finish that job with a wet-dry vac & model airplane gas line. And suck as much coolant off the back of the heads so when ya take them off ya won't get coolant in the cylinders & set on the rings. Stay with the OE cam, pump & timing set. In other words don't pull the timing cover. But do sent the heads to Wegner' in central Wisconsin for porting & percussion valve job w/ new seals (about $600) & Comp #7228 valve springs. Comp's 1.8 Non adjustable rockers. And before ya put the heads back on a set of GM performance lifters # 889958689. Don't forget the .080" w rods. Top off with a FAST 102, some headers, NO cats or Hi flow. This combo will only add a wee bit of off idle additional performance, but a bit North of 2000 it will pull harder than you can imagine! I went three steps farther down the slippery slop & it got WAY expensive, Ole' Bob.

LOL I mean at this point you need to just pull the engine. and transmission, probably drop the diff too. it's a 16+ year old car right so needs alot of work........

Why not pull the lower radiator hose and pressurize the steam port hose to force pretty much all of the coolant out?
