I have been meaning to post this for some time...
I really hated the fact that the GTO has no outside temp guage. My last two cars had this feature and not having it now drove me nuts. So, I purchased a GM replacement mirror with compass and temp monitor. Photos are attached.
I love it & it works great. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get the ones with the LED map lights too.

That is awesome! How much was it, did you install it yourself, was it difficult, where do you tie into the power, how do you run the temp probe outside? Thanks.

May I quote you on that?

Similar thang here. http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2063 I didnt get the temp/compass as I have SatNav for directions and don't care about the temp. Mainly, I wanted map lights. The auto-dimmer was a bonus. Got it on Ebay for $40, but I had to figure out the wiring myself, and improvise a means of interfacing the multipin connector. I also cemented a small socket to the backside of the mirror to have a handy place to plug in a radar detector.

Yeah, everything he said. Is it auto-dim too?

I would like to have one with temp and compass. I sort of miss those features from my other vehicles. Please tell us where you got the mirror, how much it cost and how hard it was to install including hooking up it up and placing the sensor.

I also did what mistermike did, and changed my mirror with an ebay special. It's auto-dim, compass and temp. I don't have the temperature hooked up yet, I need a sensor for the grill. I also used the visor (vanity light) power to run mine. While the visor was down I pulled down on the headliner and looked toward the pillar and saw a good sized cutout / channel that looked to go as far down as the pillar itself. I plan to run my temperature wires and new voltage wire through there eventually. I hope I'm right and can use that route, if not I'll leave it as is. I'm not running down the side of the pillar exposed. Here is the website with "new" mirror's by Gentex. :)

We need one of our sponsors to put together a group pricing for the Mito rearview mirror with Homelink. This is a restricted product that they won't sell directly. The mark-up through their dealers is rediculous. This should be standard. Surprising that GM didn't include it with OnStar. We should not have to "jury-rig" the wiring. Watch how that voids your warranty when something electrical goes wrong. :sneaky:

Wouldn't be surprised
Did you ever find out what the dealer mark up was?

Something I would have liked. What's worse is the Monaro is available with Holden Assist (aka Onstar down under). :banghead:
Wait a second........maybe it would be possible to retrofit it in. Unfortunately I don't really know where you would begin..................

Visor Mirror Lighting

My wife is already complaining that the visor mirror doesn't light up at night well enough to see. I popped the lense out and they put the lamp behind the plastic, I can't believe they put a cheap mirror in this car.

Anyone know where to get a replacement?

thanks

You still haven't answered how you installed it. I was going to do a Gentex one (another OEM supplier to GM) to put this kind of mirror in my Camaro, but cost detered me.

Anyway, the wiring isn't soo much an issue as is getting the sensor down to the engine compartment in a fender where GM typically mounts them.

Your thoughts?

I had the dealership install that mirror in my car before I picked it up.
They charged me $299 installed, but I didn't care how much, I just wanted it.

It is just a little clip with a senor attached to it. They hooked it up to the bottom on my front bumper below the air filter box.

Reason I asked is, can it be passed through an existing hole in the firewall or does a new one need to be made?

I'm thinking it gets routed down the A-pillar, then through an existing hole.

I'd still like to know details for both wiring for the mirror and sensor wiring. If Holden has a mirror like this in use for Holden Assist as well as wiring for the dome light, something may already be up there to tap into.
