1. How many miles should I wait before I take the M6 Jacket
to the strip to race it?

2. I am not going to ever powershift or speedshift this car, but
I have no problem being fairly aggressive with my shifts. What
kinds of times should I get assuming this scenario with perfect shifts.

3. I've noticed on a couple of Dynorun graphs that the torque
is strongest from about 2000 to 5000 RPM, should my next shift
be at about 5000 RPM's.

Thanks guys for your help!

1. I started Racing my Cobra at 600 miles but most guys wait till 1K miles.

2. All depends on your launch. If you're not going to powershift or speed shift.. I can see as good as High 13's up to mid 14's.

3. No. Shift at Redline in Every gear. The LS1's powerband doesn't fall off quickly enough to short shift. Best Possible times will be had with Redline shifts.

Just for the Record... I've had an LS1 powered Firehawk so i know from experience.

1. I can't remember how few miles I had on mine, but it wasn't many. 1K sounds like a good number, or maybe after your first oil change. Are you going to switch to synthetic?

2. I don't powershift or speedshift. Best I've done so far is 14.04, but I'm a novice and have really crappy 60' times. As NBS4 said, it's all about the launch. If you can keep your 60' times at 2.0 or less, you should easily be in the 13's.

3. I calculated that shifting at 5550 (tach needle pointing straight up) through 4th, then redline through 5th and 6th would maximize the '04 GTO's potential. Then when I got to the strip, I didn't pay a damn bit of attention to the tach. I just "gripped it and ripped it." (BTW, you'll never get to 5th and 6th in a 1/4 mile.) There is a thread called "How do I shift the M6?" You will find a LOT of discussion there.

I'm going to switch to Mobil 1 at my first oil change. I've raced at the track
(Indianapolis Raceway Park) several times, but it was with my 97 Z28 A4.
With practice I had some good 60 foot times and best run of 13.9. Hopefully
with some practice on the M6 I'll bring home some mid 13's. Thanks for
the advice.
