Alright guys, I am debating on 390 or 411 gears. I have a ls2 bored 30 over to 370. BTR stage 4 cam, Headers, ported 243 Heads, e85, 4l65E Satge 3, Yank 3900PA Converter pretty much everything Dyno 448 on mustang with my stock 346 gears.

my setup is obviously mid to high range as the dyno was showing I was running out with my current gear and needed to be bumped up to 7100RPM Wot. my question on an auto is 411 gears too much? or is their a big difference from 390 to 411

Are you doing 1/4 and looking to improve it? Are you topping out 3rd with enough room for the 4th shift to make use of it? (Not an auto person so no idea where the shifts land in the 1/4)

If youre just looking for fun daily then whichever. Keep in mind highway rpms are going to be up a bit

You bored an LS2 .030" over? Did you have cylinder damage or something that disallowed only going .005" or .010" over?

no damage. Got a great deal on the block it was a l76 block 6.0 came out of G8 had it machined and all refreshed hot tanked plan was 408 stroker and changed plans and had stock rotating assembly put in to just a 370. The good I can just switch to 408 assembly if I get too bored with it lol.

The L76 is aluminum, right? And you went .030" over? Hmmm.

Yes it’s aluminum. I was doing a 408 stroker Build. It’s been done millions of times on ls2 blocks... is their a problem doing that? Not sure what you are trying to say or prove with your comments?

Ls1 block stigma.
I went ahead and purchased the 411's with the rebuild kit. I really wanted the 390's but after watching video's and seeing people post they wish they went with 411 after buying 390's I made my mind up. its only a weekend fun car so I think I will be happy with them.

Not trying to say or prove anything, just asking questions and learning about all the different combos people come up with (it has nothing to do with LS1 stuff. I didn't even know about that uber). Most all aluminum LS blocks will clean up at 5 to 10 thou (unless damage, which is why I asked that), so that's why I asked about going 30. If you look for any aftermarket LS2 pistons, all of the mfg's generally only list 5 or 10 over. They'll make custom anything, so I know you can get whatever you want. I'm just wrapping my head around removing an extra 20 thou of material for another 3-1/2 ci's. Interesting stuff.

all good man, I couldn't tell by tone of your message when you said hmmm. 4.030 pistons are everywhere for ls2. when I get the funds I would love to stroke this thing out to 408. the assembly I wanted was way too much so had to step down and make this build a budget friendly.

Yeah I'm running 4.11 in my m6. Just installed them a month ago. Gears are a bit short. I skip gears around town 100% now a days unless I'm taking someone to gap. But overall I love them. Once I get on the highway I don't have to downshift to 5th anymore I just stay in 6th the whole time. I've been averaging 20-24 mpg on highway.
