I posted about this awhile back. Mine has always looked bad. http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45265

It is like the hook that gets latched to is too long. Someday I fabricate a shorter one and try that. Someone posted once about taking the palm of your hand and pushing in on the hook and bending it in a little, which fixed his gap. I did that and it looks a little better than in the pic in my post, but I am still not satisfied. The gap is still worse than every GTO I have ever seen.

I had this problem on my '06 before I bought it. They told me they couldn't adjust the glove box. I told them that it was unacceptable and that I wouldn't buy the car like that. So they took the glovebox from the Torrid Red one they had and switched it with mine. Now it lines up perfectly.

Short story long...sounds like you need a new glovebox.

There's a little bit of a gap when my glovebox is closed. Is there a way to adjust it so that it closes flush?
With your palm; push forward on the striker (|_|) gently... you will feel it bend slightly (Don't bend it up). Close the box to see if it lines up; if not, repeat until it does. WARNING: don't gorilla it or it will break; gently.
