Gay Pontiac here in South Houston has a red/red car the owner backed out on. It is available as we speak. He was the first person to put money on one here. 7 more cars are due at this dealer in the next 3 weeks(mid Feb) Soon there will be sunburned dashboards and big discounts just like the Ram Air Formulas that sat on their lot for a whole month. I CAN & WILL wait for that scenario. Its been said already, but the car is way nicer in person than a picture in a book or thread can show you. Interior doesnt use typical parts bin cruise control stalks/door locks & the leather is soft! Aussie stuff doesnt even look GM. Leather is way nicer than the stuff that they used on 4th gen T/A's. Stereo bumps. Exhaust is addictive - sounds nice - not to loud or soft. 150 different sets of pipes - I think they got it right.

I'm thinking Silver/red guts will be my choice! Just wish White exterior/red interior was in the lineup instead of the Circus Purple.

Boy, I would hate to have that Dealers name plate on one of my cars!
I wouldn't mind. Good ricer bait. :D

out here in oz, a ricer is not in our lingo. so what's a ricer, or am i being 1 in asking?
Almost always Japanese. (ricer evolved from "rice burner", an insult popular among Harley owners in the 60's) Usually 2 litres or less, frequently fitted with an exhaust system reminiscent of the sound one's hindquarters might make with a megaphone after a severe laxative overdose, and often festooned with useless stickers, spoilers, ground effect kit, and any other visual ornamentation suggesting speed rather than actually producing it. Driver median age around 14. For a headlong plunge, try www.ricecop.com

Yeah, we get what you call 'ricer' cars here. We also get a fair few 'grey' imports like the twin-turbo Nissan GTRs and the like. The leather in these is Connolly hide from Queensland, who supply leather to Jaguar and other Euro makers.

The cows are actually kept in barb-wire-free enclosures so they minimise scratches on the hide - fair dinkum! Over here the parts you see are parts-bin and common to most Holden vehicles. The gauges come straight from the SS Commodore, along with the interiors.

MarkII,

I suspected the leather was barb wire free. My Benz(C36 AMG) leather is devoid of that too. Another small reason Foreign cars have exceptional build quality. Good info.

Anybody wanna start a petition to get GM to re-arm the spray guns & drop Purple to add White & a Dark Grey/Charcoal to the exterior palete?

Also, Act like Honda & put the spoilers in the trunk or let the dealer add them through the Parts Dept. I HATE the wing & hidden cost associated with it. Wouldnt you guys rather see a front lip spoiler or some Monaro 18" wheels instead of the rear cosmetic only wing?

I would rather see a bat insignia on each door, a siren on top, and a big ass thruster on the back along with some red pinstriping on my black car. But that's just me.....at least I think it might be me, as I'm pretty sure I'm Batman.

I happen to know the gentleman who backed out of that first GTO at Gay. He did not back out because he didn't like the car when he saw it, i.e. your theory that you will have GTOs gathering dust and discounts in a couple weeks is a pipe dream. He put his money down 19 months ago!!! He backed out because the dealer drilled holes into the car to put the front license plate on even after they were asked not to. The fact that the car had 22miles on it already also seemed excessive to him, especially because it arrived on a Saturday while all the "cats" were away and the "mice" were on duty. And BTW, the car sold almost immediately, so there goes your theory.

On the other hand, NOBODY should question Gay Pontiac's Drag Racing and GTO heritage. It is far stonger than any dealer I know in Texas. They just had a little problem with customer service in this instance. I picked a different dealer only because I have a friend there, or I would have looked into Gay Pontiac.

I would have backed out on the car too if the front clip was drilled - that sucks! 18,000 cars are not a 'limited' car no matter what a bench racer or salesman tells you. There were around 18,000 T/A's built on a yearly basis and YES it is fact, not a theory that the GTO will have discounts well below MSRP this Summer just like T/A's did every year they were built and sold. Right now Escalades in Houston are being sold for mid 40's and Vettes are 36,799 at Landmark! GTO is just a car like those and salepeople have a living to make! Dont hate cause you got raped at sticker

No hating going on here. Remember, Corvettes are only NOW going for reasonable prices because the C5 market is saturated (about 25k car per year times 7 years...), and many of the "faithful" are awaiting the C6. Bill Heard in Sugar Land is Landmark's sister dealership and was still asking $10k over MSRP for Z06 Vettes as recently as last Summer. As far as F-bodies, they quit making them because they could not sell enough of them to justify a 5th generation just yet. No wonder at all why they were discounted! I hardly think that 9,000 or even 18,000 GTOs will saturate the market. I would expect small ($100-500) discounts to be the best GTO deal available until next year. That Red car at Gay went for "quite a bit over sticker", so I'm not sure steep discounts will be forthcoming anytime soon.

Thats funny, I already got offered $1,000 below msrp if I added a warranty! Their next shipment in mid - Feb has 3 cars un-spoken for - not exactly a line out the door to reinforce mark ups?

So in other words, if you buy a $1000 warranty they'll take $1000 off the price. That is, they'll give the warranty for free (extended warranties being $500-1200 usually). Well guess what, warranties are only great if you don't plan to mod the car, otherwise they're a waste of $. That's STILL not an example of a steep and worthwhile discount. Try again Chief.

I called GAY back in December when I ordered my car. They wanted $5,000 over MSRP and wouldnt budge. Worse they had a attitude problem. Ron Carter wanted $500.00 over sticker. I went to Beck-Masten and ordered mine at MSRP. I fully know in 9 months they will be below MSRP but I want my car now. Expecting delivery in early Feb if all goes well..........

The Red/Red car in question here went for $1000 over sticker at Gay. FYI.
