the stock intake already gets "cold air." even though the plastic parts get hot, they transfer very little heat energy per unit of airmass to the air going into the engine. that air moves very quickly, especially at high engine loads/speeds, so it's really pretty close to ambient as it enters the engine.

if you're going to leave it stock, just get a breakout harness and drop a stock IAT somewhere that gets airflow and that's as far away from the engine heat as possible. drop in k&n filter, and make sure the stock intake isn't missing any peices.

if you plan on modding, then get an aftermarket intake. the stock intake is only suitable for a stock engine.
04s already have a breakout iat i thought. Unless youre just implying an extension

Im stock as far as the engine goes. I do have a cs ra ing cabon fiber intake elbow but thats it. How often would you clean your otr? I also planned on trying to run a filter skin to help reduce some of the road grime. Im not super worried about water as i dont drive much in the rain if at all. Honestly im trying to get rid of some heat soak. Ive noticed these cars like to be hot under the hood. Plus my air filter is currently just routed in the engine bay behind the headlight (i have an 04).
I’d prolly clean it once every other year. If that. But that’s because I don’t have a choice. Not that it’s in the fender I’d just buy a new one when need be. Also run a pre filer on it. But normally only sees 6k miles a year.

God, i dont think i even put 3k on the goat last year lmfao. But thats good to know. I definatly plan on running a pre filter. I figured the area couldnt get too dirty because it is pretty protected from the wheels and anything coming from the front.

oh yeah, he has an 04. derp.

but, yeah, he will need an extention if he plans on putting it by the filter in the fenderwell.
Now could i just solder extension wires onto the current connector? Will it mess with the iat readings? Or am i better off re pinning and making an extension... Or just biying an extension from casper?

Not sure how far you plan to move it but stock lenth tends to be plenty. Id cut and extend ot buy an extension, I don't solder anything anymore. Re loomed my whole harness and wrapped the iat back around to the other side of the motor

Just buy an extension. In fact, I have an 18-inch LS1 extension harness I don't need if you need one quick. I don't think Casper's makes them anymore.

are you trolling? why would you do that?

if you feel confident cutting the wires and using butt connectors and heat shrink, do that. otherwise get an extension like rich said. plenty of cheap 💩 on amazon.

not sure why casper's wouldn't sell an extention. but this is a pretty ubiquitous part.

besides caspers there's racetronix, michigan motorsports, ICT billet, lingenfelter, warr, tick, heck friggin jegs and summit probably carry it.... and dozens more.

I don't think they make them anymore. They don't show them on their website any more. But I have one I don't need.

Poor choice of words. My bad. I would cut the iat wires and extend them. I mean i uses to work at a stereo shop doing remote starts and shot. So im plenty familiar with soldering. I wa just curious because i know for exapmle manufacturers recommend agains soldering certian things (like 02 sensor wires) because it could change the resistance that computer sees.

Im also very familair with de-pinning comnectors and wires to extend them.

Just bought a GTO 2 weeks ago, not sure if this is what you are asking for, but I figured I’d drop a pic and see if it helps. This is the intake that was on my car when I bought it. I actually put the filter sock on it because I was worried about water. Dude straight up cut a hole out of the car.

Kinda sorta. Ill be doing it slightly differently. Im ginna fab up something like this and put the filter under where that hole is. So i wont see a filter in my engine bay.

That's where people would cut the car for the hardcore intake or Hendrix intake. The previous owner did the same on mine. I cut a cover plate and put an overflow tank in the hole because I am using an OTR intake.

What are you doing with the car that water could possibly be an issue? Especially with how little air that motor would need.
