I have seen more and more gto owners saying about their cars flooding inside. I had worked with a water tech on my car to fid the cause of my particular issue and I also believe that there are others with the same problem. The first problem is that there is an open hole about the size of a pencil eraser on the inner front lip of the rear quarter panel. The pictures i have supplied show the location but mine have been plugged with a sealer.

What is happening is this hole collects rain water and road silt off your tire and channels it to the rocker panel plugging the rocker drains and then flooding your car.The fix to this issue is to seal that hole and then you will have to tear part the interior of the car to solve the other problem of the plugged rocker. The panel that needs to be removed for this is the rear seat quarter panels pictured below.

When you have those panels remove you need a garde hose and have to run water into the rocker on the inside below where the speaker and then you will need a rubber mallet and start tapping on the rocker panel at the bottom where the next picture shows you.

When water starts running out from in between the rocker and the body the drains are cleared. From then its up to you to clean the dirt out from under the carpet. I hope this helps some people and solves some problems for you.

Man I would like to see a class action against GM for these cars. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the problems with GTOs and the dealers won’t fix anything. They just say its normal they all do that, which sounds like a reason to fix them all not refuse to fix one (end rant)

Dealership had to re-set and seal all my windows to correct my flooding problem in my old GTO. Got a new carpet and mats out of it too.

The floor mat is actually floating in this photo

which led to this:

thats what mine looked like.had the airbag light go off twice too.should have seen my face the first time.i was goin down I80 and waiting for the bag to blow in my face..they thought it was the roof strips...it flooded again and they had a water specialist come in...he had me help since i knew more about tearing the seats and panels out than himand that is what we found....there is a little buldge where that hole is..it dont hurt to look and you should be able to feel it with your fingertips.there was one on each side on mine.

Most of the water in mine was leaking through the drivers side quarter window, it was filling up inside the quarter panel and slowly flooding into the trunk and interior. Oh well, someone else's problem now.

God must be helping me this time, I delt with a fish bowl car for 5 years dealing with T tops leaking and crap! Totally sucks getting rained on, wet carpet, seats!

Side note, I removed the end caps to the side rockers located by the rear tires and was amazed how much rocks and dirt was in them! I vaccumed it out with my shop vac but after a few weeks of winter I pushed on the caps again and realize they are full of sand and dirt again:confused: Thing I dred about rockers is they can rust out the car and you dont even realize it untill it's too late.

Mine leaks into the foot area of the front drivers side.
I'm guessing its coming through the front window somewhere...

It causes my lock on that door to CEASE to work unless I catch it early and pop the lock a few times, otherwise it says shut. Only happens when raining "hard"

i almost guarantee this is the problem.....rockers fill with dirt and plug..making the water flood into the car.....i thought the same as you...then found it was only flooding when driven on wet roads...

I do have that sloshing of water. I dont want to deal with a flooded car so I would love to get this fixed ASAP.

i dont have these issues but I do see water build up between the door sill and bottom of door, then pools over the bottom body weatherstrip (only in heavy rain) And the occassional drip from under the triangular trim pieces at the front of the door window frame. However my issues don't seem so bad after reading this thread! :wall:

That is crazy Kroh...thank you for the write-up. Def. calls for me to do an inspection of that area. Sorry...but where on your diagram is the Rocker panel draining or supposed to drain i.e. where is the "clog"?
