OMG!! I did not thing it would make this much of a difference in "growl" and overall sound quality. I'm running Magnaflow mufflers and that's it. I had the resonoators taken off for $60, and right upon startup it had much more of a bark to it. I've drove the whole way home w/the windows down and no music. I couldn't be happier!!

do it one better and get some headers on there... you'll wet yourself with the "NASCAR"-like roar!

if you take resonators off get it alot louder? is it legal through emissions or no?
I'm running Super 40's with straight pipes in place of the resonator and it got a lot louder. It's legal as far as emissions go, but the whole decibal thing, I don't know.. I think anything over stock is pretty much "illegal", because stock is supposed to be borderline.

I went to get mine removed today and the guy told me they were cats and he cant touch them. I am confused whether or not I have four cats or two cats and two resonators? I thought they were resonators but the guy said if there is an 02 sensor within 4-5 inches of a metal box then its a cat.

Sounds tempting.....I might have to do that.
I hate the crap that cops give you for a loud car, when you have a Harley Davidson loud ass exhaust blowing your windows out.:bs: :whine:

You will have two resonators since you're in a '04.. I'd be a little iffy about going back to that guy. ;)
This person sounds like me and that's not a good thing. :D

Regardless of where you go back to attempt to get them taken off, just have them give 'em a good ol knock with your fist. It's easy to hear that the cats are fairly solid (assuming you haven't gutted them) and the resonators sound like there's completley hollow. Hopefully this will convince them.

Have you been on the highway yet? Do you now have some interior drone while holding a steady speed?

I also just have the magnaflows on my ’04. Am also think’n of replacing the resonators with straight pipe but don’t want the drone while cruise’n on the highway.

I have super 40 flows and an Hpipe in place of the resonator. I do not notice much drone on the highway certainly nothing that a low radio would not cover. I would recommend getting an H or x pipe instead of straights. First off they are good for a couple of horsies. Second I was parked at a show right next to a guy that had super 40s and straight pipes as supposed to my H. I would say his was a tad louder however it had much more of a hollow sound. Mine stayed deeper. Either way everyone should lose that restrictive crap resonator DO IT you wont regret it.

i cut out the resonators and put straight pipe in and then ran both pipes into one 3". and then to a 3" in and out 1 baffle race muffler then out the back with 1 3" pipe and the idle is a real low rumble. i have alot of drone at 2000 rpm all the way to wot. inside and out the car. the only thing is the popping, but it is real low as a low rumble with a pop. not loud at all.

the cats are just below the manifolds where the exhaust pipes connect. the resonators are the next thing inline. there will be a sensor that is located about 6 inches in front of the resonators. then the next is the mufflers. so engine-- cats--resonators--mufflers!! and the 04 does not have 4 cats. the sensor is in front of the resonators and behind the cats on our cars.
