Got smoked by a Lightning last night at not 1 but 2 lights. If my tires would have hooked I think I would have had him but oh well maybe next time I'll have the 04 instead of the 70. :banghead:

Be careful, Lightnings can be freakishly fast, a sc pulley, exhaust and a chip and those things have like 600 ft lbs of torque.

Really, the lightning that dyno'ed before mine 2k3 pulled 340 with the smaller pulley, exhaust and chip. 2002 lightning before that only pulled 330.

Even the owner was pretty disappointed. More that my CAM'ed SS pulled 368 and my buddies Cam'ed T/A pulled 373.

I outran a Lightning at the 1/8 mile track but I think it was bone stock but they are still strong in stock form. My quesion is that the truck should have had a bigger problem getting traction then the goat. Did you just roast the tires from the light??? That can happen sometimes when you get a little worked up before a little racing!!!

Been there & done that!

THey make for fun races. My LT1 A4 w/ 2.73 was a drivers race with my buddies 360hp stock L. (99 i think). All i had was a CAI.

Once again, just like the 03 Cobra, pulley, chip, yada yada yada

I would venture to say there are more L's with pulleys and tunes than Cobras, but that may have changed in recent times. At least thats what i heard from some FoMoCo guys.

about the dyno numbers I was sorta being figurative, since i had no data to back it up, but look on www.nloc.net , they have some more information, and my be careful statement was intended to start your modding bug.

600 is a bit high, but they have alot of torque :

"4# lower, jlp ram air, maggie catback, psp predator tune, ngk br7ef plugs = 382whp 479 torque at the wheels on 92 pump gas. 2004 w/2300mi."
ask quoted by some guy on nloc

and in response to the dyno day things, the 99-00 Lightnings have a bit less hp and torque than the 2001-2004's.

Heh... my '02 Lightning pulled 376 rwhp/505 ft/lbs on Razors Edge Motorsport's Mustang dyno with a 5# pulley, CAI, ported TB and blower intake, and chip. That added to traction bars and 305 drag radials meant the truck was pulling 1.8 60's. Ran all day long at 12.9 @ 106mph, cooler in the bed, radio on, idling through the staging lanes with AC going. The weak points of the truck are weight, 4600 pounds, and wind resistance. it'll kill you at a light, but highway aint so pretty.

I would expect the trucks to have more torque, they are trucks :D Kinda need more tq for hauling and load. Dont you have to do lots to get traction?

First of all let me clarify, I was in my 1970 GTO which is 100% stock and VERY tired. I smoked the tires on both attempts. No traction whatsoever with those Radial T/A's at least in my case. Still i kept with him, he only had me buy a 1/2 a car. I will say the truck sounded great...
