Me vs. Supposed Modded 06' Mustang GT (lil Long)

I always end up racing someone on my way to get my haircut. Anyways, i start to merge on the freeway when i see this asshole 06' Mustang GT weaving in and out of traffic acting like a badass. Now i kept on telling myself i shouldnt mess with him because i recently just got a ticket .... oh well i had to prove to him he wasnt all that. I finally catch up to him because he was slowed down by a block in traffic. Im in the hammer lane stuck behind some slow car (they should not be in that lane) and im doing about 70 .. now in a A4 70 is a great speed to be at. He is right on my ass n I nail it just to show him what i got then i slowly back down... we get to an opening in the road somwehere around i-96 and inkster rd and we both punch it ... to my suprise he started pulling on me slowly and almost hit me if i didnt slam on the brakes because he cut me off to get around a car. Im pissed at this point now becaue i cannot believe a GT just almost hit me and pulled on me. He waves to get off at Telegraph were i was headed anyways.... we both come up to a light and to my suprise it is a young punk (20 maby) with some HOTTTTTT ass girl in the passenger seat ..

Me - "You must have something done to that, i never had a GT pull on my before"

Him - "Yea i have around 400HP on this GT"

(His girl didnt even look to the side, but best believe i was checking her out)

Him - "Wanna run em to the bridge, i wanna see how fast i am"

Me - "Lets go"

The light turned so fast i couldnt even get ready for a launch but we both had a little tire squeel and i pulled 1.5 cars on him through 1st then half way through second i back off because i had about 3 cars on him .... He then does the ricer fly-by with no thumbs up.

GTO: 100000 Mustang Gt: 0

What bothered me is that he pulled on me at high speeds but i totally raped him from a dig, granted he spun out a bit but so did i. 400HP he says .. i think not!

See the automatic is tough when you are already rolling. 70MPH is a dead zone, it only downshifts 1 gear. If you would have put it in 2nd manually and shited it to 3rd you would have taken him real quick. Its all about the power band with these automatics.
hmm i thought 70 is a pretty good speed .. now 40 is a DEAD ZONE

40 is a dead zone. Around 55 is a pretty good spot.
40 in 2nd is nice! Whoops. wrong thread...all jokes as side NICE KILL! The GT does seem to pull a bit better than your average 300hp car. I wondering what gear they run.

Does your GTO drop to 2nd gear from 70mph, or did it during this race?

I know my A4 is really fast from about 55-70 mph or so. I really can't be sure if it drops down to 2nd any higher than 70mph (I dought it).

The problem " DEAD ZONES" seem to be

70-80 mph or so when it drops to 3rd (not the greatest pull in the world)
And
Any speed from 5 mph - 45 mph, when the tranny only drops to 2nd gear. Nothing like racing someone from a low speed roll (say 10mph or so), and the tranny stays in 2nd. That can really make a GTO look slow.

The other day after making a turn onto the main road, I floored the gas from about 30mph. In the lane next to me, a stock looking pickup truck was able to stay door to door with me for several seconds. Lucky for me a little further down the road we went at it again from about 60 mph. This time I instantly started pulling away. I pulled several cars on him very quickly. So it makes a huge difference what speed you run from and whether or not the tranny drops down to the appropriate gear.

So I try to race from a dig or around 60mph if possible. If I expect a run from a low speed roll, I will manually put it in 1st and then quickly upshift to 3rd or D after I nail the gas. I hate doing it, but it's a lot better than racing someone from 5mph in 2nd gear.
I beat a new Nissan Altima big time using this method the other day. I was pretty sure this kid was going to race me. So I put in in 1st gear while sitting at a red light. Light turned green and we slowly rolled off the line and then at about 10mph , he nailed the gas. I was ready and did the same. I shoot right past him and then quickly upshited to 3rd and let the tranny do the rest of the shifting for me. I had 5- 6 cars on him by 70mph or so. If I had left it in D (and the tranny didn't downshift to 1st), there's a good chance we would have been door to door up to 60mph.

If I know a interstate roll race is on I'm already in 3rd and the switch in on ;)
you pulled a GT by 1.5 cars in first gear... He must not have known what he was doing because I ran a bone stock GT and it was with me the whole time. I had him at my ass end on a 0-70 mph run.

I think the GT owner lied to you! A stock GT will not run next to a 6.0L GTO! The stock GT's are pooches for having 300 ponies and aren't in our league UNTIL you put all the bolt ons on them! Then it becomes a drivers race against a stock GTO, but the GTO should still win! Just my experiences with both cars.

It all depends on how well the GTO hooks up off the line. In my 06 A4 (which hooks perfectly), I can get 2 cars or so on a New GT from 0-70mph. By the 1/4 mile mark, I've got 3 or more cars and pulling away pretty hard.

But I could see a GT running right with a poorly driven M6 if he's having trouble getting off the line fast (which is very common with M6 GTOs) or he's not that great at shifting the gears.

Don't forget a lot of M6 GTOs are running well up in the 14s with inexperience drivers. That's easy prey for a well driven GT.

But as mentioned, when both cars are driven well, the GTO has a nice advantage (about a 1/2 second or so in the 1/4 mile).
Good kill

yes he probably didnt know how to drive it because i raced a GT before and he hung with me untill i started to pull half way through 2nd...

anyways ...

As far as the girl, she was to hott to be in a blue Mustang GT .. she deserved to be in a red HOT GT OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (get it?) !

when i race people in my A4, ill put it in 1,2,3 and shift my self .. we have strong trannies so i dont worry about hurting them. BTW an A4 going about 30MPH and you floor it, w00t !!! All i gotta say, thats a great speed because of the nice downshift

I can't find the A4's gear speed information.....

Is it safe to drop the A4 into 2nd when going 70? How long until you have to shift to 3rd? I hate how the car doesn't pull between 70-80 and I'd like to fix that.

I haven't played with the shifter too much, leaving it in D mostly. I just don't want to fck something up :D
what the hell? are pontiac automatics really that much of a pos? What kind of automatic doesnt drop into first at 10mph? That doesnt seem right.. Theres something wrong with the tranny if it dont go into first at 10. Automatics are usualy always in the right gear when you floor it. And if anything deadspots should be around 40, 62ish, and 97ish (going by m6 gearing since ive never drove an a4) it just dont seem right for a tranny to not dump into a first from 10-20 thats not anywere near the end of first gear thats only like 2-3000 rpm.. that means when you floor it at 20 mph you only take off at 2 grand? i dont think so... maybe you should take it to the dealership and say your car wont shift into gears at 3000 rpm cause thats not right. I had a dodge hemi automatic with two deadspots. One at 40 because it was 500 rpm away from redline and one at 80ish. definatly no problems going into first with the dodge that thing went into first all the way up to 38.. somethings wrong
also eric i wouldnt recommend shifting into 2nd at 70. Granted i have an m6 but i cant pull anyfaster than 67 so even if you can get it into 2nd you would have to be into third immediatly. with my dodge tranny wen i wanted to kill the 40 mph deadspot i dropped it in first and shifted it manualy into second as fast as possible or it would bounce off the redline. next time your full throttle see what speed your doing at 6000 rpm if its 65 or so and you ahve a dead spot at 63 you could try what i did with my dodge, if your dead spots not until 70 it could just be third gear. it dont pull as hard as 1 and 2. I can say my cars a little slow from 70-80 but by slow... i mean like a second or two then third is pushing 5000 and im whipping, id already be doing 120 in fourth by now if i was whipping while youre reading this. so i dunno.
so if one would sum this whole story into one word, it would be "owned"
