Did anyone save this month's new Motorweek, with the full test of the GTO? I was in Detroit for the auto show and forgot to ask my parents to tape it.

.
I wasn't anything that we haven't seen. There was no test. They just quoted the newer numbers and what looked like old footage of the car driving on a road.

Aw geez. I hate Motorweek. They have the worst writers (sounds like they copied the car company press release) and John Davis sounds like a syrupy-voiced radio guy, with his overly-happy, gushing monologue that extoles the virtues of EVERY car they test.

From what I saw of "Motor Trend Television," they are exactly the same. Why can't we have a guy like Tiff Needell do a SERIOUS show on cars? The Brits seem to have the good automobile shows.

.
Where's Tom McCahill now that we really need him?
Geez, Tom McCahill would be perfect for an automotive program. My dad has piles of Mechanix Illustrated from the 60's with all his car tests. He once described a hemi powered Dodge as having an exhaust note that sounds like "a dynamite truck exploding in a tunnel..." He sure knew how to describe something with colorful language.

The closest we can get to that now is Jeremy Clarkson on "Top Gear," but his reports are mostly fluff... mostly shots of the car skidding sideways with little meaningful commentary. I like Tiff Needell, even if he is a bit dramatic in his narration. The Brits know how to make a good car show, and I'll bet the Aussies have something good too.

I'd love to see a comparison test between the HSV Clubsport 8 and the Ford Falcon with the supercharged 5.4 liter V8. Fun fun!
