A few days ago I had the entire antifreeze leaked out of my car. So I went to autozone and bought me a 50/50 antifreeze for gm for our cars. As soon as I poured it in to the very top...all the antifreeze drained out completely out of the radiator less than 5 seconds. My tech is suppose to come over to check it out.
You didn't look to see where the coolant was coming out?
Pretty easy to determine the issue just by looking at what's leaking. Although I do agree with the above poster that it's probably the radiator itself or a loose hose.
Just based off prior experience...the radiator. Just do some more checking and see. If it is the radiator, I recommend the coldcase one gtog8ta offers. I like mine and it fit like a glove.
OP I am saying this as gently as I can... is that tech you mentioned willing to coach and assist you? I mean if all the antifreeze comes out of MY car - I am going to find out where its coming out before I put 30.00 worth of antifreeze back in... its just so basic that leaks don't just happen and then go away without corrective action that it seems you may not be adequately skilled to do a complete radiator replacement without someone to guide and teach you... (hey I was inexperienced once so I get it).
I don't have AC, but pulling the stock leaking radiator and installing this aluminum one took me about an hour. No leaks or heating issues since. Radiator fit fine in stock location with radiator fan clips and such.
When my radiator gave out 18 month ago, I reluctantly went back with a OEM style from Amazon, if I remember right. The reason was that I found threads at the time saying that some OTRCAIs had trouble with taller / larger radiator upgrades and fitment.
Not certain if this is still true, OP, but might be worth considering.
I'm at 155,000 miles and mine needs to be replaced. Started leaking a couple weeks ago. I'll probably try one of the eBay options as I'm selling the vehicle soon. Got an SS on Saturday. Had the GTO since new in 2005. Kind of sad to see it go.
thanks for you guys feedback. I'm still deciding which radiator to go with. Question, does it matter if I get a radiator that's made for a automatic transmission, as mine is a manual transmission?
I'm having to add a 1/2 gallon every 1000 to 2000 miles. I can't see any leaks but I haven't had time to pressure test, etc. At the risk of sounding FPFQ, I plan to check/replace the radiator cap first in case by some minor miracle it's that simple.
I just bought a new Mishimoto aluminum on sale from Andy at Kollar Racing, he's a sponser of the site. In fact he just started a new thread a few minutes ago "Does anyone SEE this".
You can get cheapo radiators at Auto Zone for like $200.
