I would check the off set of you stock wheels before buying any aftermarket wheels, wheel companies sometimes fail to mention you might ( underline might ) have a tire rub problem when using there wheels. Depending on the back spacing and sometimes the tires used you could run into this problem, really research this before laying out any $$$$. JMO

So who's the best source for wheels? There is no shortage of distributors, but trying to comparison shop all the prices is impossible. I'd like to get a set of nice looking wheels that are AFFORDABLE and strong, since I'll end up banging them into potholes anyway.

It would only take a bit of re-styling to make the stock GTO wheels look MUCH better. Why did Pontiac put such ugly wheels on it?

My thoughts exactly - Why did GM pay$$ to get new dedicated 17" molds and not just run the 18" Monaro wheel? They musta got a great deal on 36,000 17" tires to justify spending all that money on new wheels?? I heard it is like $1.2 million bucks to tool up for a new wheel change and that is why you see the same wheel on a car for 3-5 years?

Here is the Monaro wheel and removable lion head center cap....

Or these would have been perfect.....

The Monaro wheels are nicer -- slender and sleek. I'm glad the GTO has 17" wheels though. Tires will be less expensive (with more choices) and, here in Buffalo, we need the extra cushion provided by a taller sidewall. As it is, I've bent a couple wheels on my Dodge Avenger (17 inchers), which is really annoying.

The photos of the black Monaro prove what I've been saying since the beginning: The Monaro - minus the wing - is similar in lines to a BMW 330ci, which is my favorite coupe. People that say it is ugly or boring do not understand the simplicity and elegance of European (and Australian) design.

Yep, those same people never even owned a real GTO in the 60's-70's anyway and wear NASCAR ball caps with flames and think F1 racing is for rich snobs and dont even know what Australian V-8 supercar racing is?

Someone should import the Holden style 18's. How much can they cost? Cast aluminum are they not? If someone wanted to go with the total Holden look as I heard some talk about, these would be a must. That would be fun to badge the car up as a Holden.

I like those chromes on the Grand Prix - but I won't put chromes on the GTO. I'll probably stick with the stock rims until I need tires. At that point I will evaluate the black or charcoal options, as well as my monetary situation, and decide whether to stick stock or go black. I did the chrome momo's on my Saturn already and it always felt a little too pimp for me then - let alone with this car.
I am wondering how some old school Cragar 5-spokes would look though...

I actually don't mind those either, but there's just so many mustangs with them around here anyway...

I've got TorqueThrust II's on both of our classic Pontiacs, but they require too much polishing for an everyday car. I don't suppose someone could photoshop those?
