Official 2012 G8/GTO Owners iNternational Event Meet Thread!
This is the official thread for the 2012 G8/GTO Owners iNterational Event. This year's event will take place in the Quad Cities in Illinois and Iowa from September 20-23. The host hotel will be most likely once again be the Isle of Capri Hotel and Casino in Bettendorf, IA.
This will be the 3rd year of the event. Last year we had over 70 cars at the event, including cars from as far away as California and Manitoba, Canada! Early check in will be Thursday night the 20th. We usually make a reservation and convoy to a local restaurant for dinner.
This year, on Friday the 21st we will be going to Cordova Dragway Park during the evening. As well as participatiing in that evening's test and tune, we will also have private track time for our group before the test and tune session opens to everyone else.
On Saturday the 22nd, we expect to again host a car show at the Isle of Capri Hotel. The past two years, we have been given access to the majority of the roof level of the car park to hold the car show. With enough registered cars, we would most likely be able to get the entire roof of the car park. There are several classes for G8s and GTOs alike, as well as guests who have other cars. Heck, I won the G8 guest modified trophy in the car show last year with my Silverado (My GTO was in the body shop ) There is a very nice hand drying car wash just a couple of miles from the hotel as well to get those road trip bugs off the front of your car!
Last year our sponsors were generous enough to donate some nice free parts that we raffled off; exhaust systems, pulleys, car detailing kits, etc. With a larger turnout this year (especially from the GTO community), we are hoping to attract even more and larger sponsors for this year's meet.
In previous years we have also done poker runs and scenic cruises. Based on feedback, we will most likely do some of the same events this year, too. The Quad Cities area has lots of great attractions. The casino is nice and has private rooms if you want to get a group together to play some poker. There is also the John Deere tractor factory and the Rock Island Arsenal, not to mention lots of sightseeing opportunities.
We're hoping to get over 100 cars regisistered this year. The talk is already to have next year's meet in Austin, TX during the Australian V8 Supercar Series at the new Circuit of the Americas. With a good enough turnout this year, we are hoping to get GM involved and possibly have a part of the meet during the race weekend at the track itself. But that is then, this is now. As commitments get made and things get locked in, I will update this thread.
If you would like to get in touch with the event organizer, he goes by bracketracer on www.g8board.com, or PM me and I can pass any info along.
