Has anyone painted there calipers on an 04? Im about to do it but I want my calipers to look nice. I was going to take them off that way I could paint them off the car but my buddy said that we would have to bleed the brakes? Is this true?

If anyone has done this and has experience please let me know...

Thanks alot!

So far I've only painted the rear calipers, but they look great. I am using a kit I got from Advance Auto Parts. It comes with a degreaser, and the red paint. (There are other colors, but why?) Also, I didn't take the calipers off. Although I did have some trouble getting the wheels off the hubs. Trouble cured by a rubber mallet. Something else I would like to do that I saw is, I am going to paint the hats (I believe that's what they're called) black. It gives a very clean look. Better than rust. Good luck.

I painted mine right after I took delivery of the car. Did the Duplicolor syatem. Paint was brushed on. Just make sure it is really clean surface. I have had mine painted for a bit over a year. Not on flake or chip. I did not remover the calipers from the hoses. But, I did hang them from the coil springs to remover them from the brakets. I also spraied the brakets black. I'll post a pic later.

Duplicolor kit. Did the same for my wife's GP. The paint only lasted 2 years on hers (daily driver and winters) but still looks great on the goat after 2 yrs. (stored winters)

I have used a couple kits throughout the years:

The best is a kit called Foliatec, then the Duplicolor, then sprays

Just take the wheels off, and brush it on, let it dry.

I disliked the spray cause you have to mask and paper parts off forget that :bs:

I'm using the VHT spray on my new Baer kit (when I get the damn thing), but they will be on a cardboard back drop.

I'll have to find that brush on kit, did it come in Black also.

yeah the kit from advanced auto parts does good work...... also i know a guy with a corvette 50th aniversarry, and he painted his callipers the same as the body paint color.... he went to a body shop and had paint mixed up..... then he painted the callipers with it, the coated it with some VHT paint..... looks really nice, think if you have a brazen car you could get brazen calipers, and if you had a spice red, you could get spice red calipers..... its a little extra work and money, but his looks killer

oh and keep in mind that you wont be able to drive your car for a day while the paint dries

I picked up a complete front and rear set of like new 2004 calipers from a member here last month. I'm going to the 2005 setup, let me know if you want these four calipers for your paint job. I paid around $100 shipped for them.

Mine are painted red, the only color a caliper should be. MY brother panited them with this http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=555&itemType=PRODUCT We did this back in '04 and they look brand new still. I have no chips. On his car, on the metal clip on the caliper chipped off. We didn't take the calipers off the car. Just put it on jack stands and paint slow so you don't get any paint on the pads.

I've used the Foliatec as well with great results.

Duplicolor kit (red) on mine as well, and have held up for 36,000 miles and one winter just fine. Brushed it on with the calipers still attached, and taped off the areas I didn't want painted. It nearly matches the Torrid Red...

I used flat black rustoleum on the rotor hats, but that only held up until about mid winter. I've since replaced the front rotors with Powerslots, and they look (and with new C5 pads, they perform) much better.

I used the Duplicolor kit on mine. There's three coats on them right now applied very nicely by my wife Amy. The brush that comes in the kit sucks. Get a better one and the paint will cover real good. Two coats will cover them but three looks really good. She painted mine while they were on the car and painted just the part that would be seen. Pics below...
