The last time I was under the GTO I noticed that one of boots where the parking brake lever pokes out through the back side of the backing plate is chewed up. I'd like to replace them and I think I've found a source to get new ones. But, in looking at how everything is put together, I've gotten the impression that the rear hub mount/knuckle has to be unbolted in order to replace these little boots. Is that correct? Looks like the boot is sandwiched between the backing plate and the hub mount. I have a spare set of control arms lying around I couldn't pry the boot out of the hole so I assume it is held in by the hub housing.

If that's correct, I'll just buy the boots and hold onto them and replace them if and when I ever have a need to get into the rear hubs that deep.

If I recall correctly, those boots can be replaced by unbolting the parking brake mechanism from the hub and dust shield.
Once unbolted, the whole thing slides out including the boot.
I think we're saying the same thing.

It looks like the parking brake shoe mechanism can't come off unless the wheel hub comes off first, but at least you could get the parking brake stuff loose, just not entirely off the control arm/hub assembly. Getting at the mounting bolts would be a chore with the hub still in the way but I suppose it could be done.

I swapped mine out during the CTS-V brake install.
Don't forget there are holes in the hub to allow for removal of parking brake assembly bolts.

iirc think you just have to unbolt the backing plate. the bottom two bolts also attach the parking brake mechanism.

and the gm kit has all the doodads, including the boot.

Yep, those are the boots in question. Next time I'm up in my storage place I'll take a look at my spare control arms to sleuth out what it would take to get at them. Even if it is tearing the rear brakes apart including the parking brake system, I'll just wait until I have a bigger reason to get in there. Few years back when I did new rotors and pads would have been a good time, but couldn't find the boots then.

the gm kit part number is 1711188 in case you want to go that route.
A big fat "no longer available". Don't need the whole kit, just the boots. I hardly ever use my parking brake anyway, can't imagine how parts would ever get worn out. :D

Was anyone ever able to source the boots? Either as a direct fit (GM part number 1711188) or cross ref another vehicle. I'm coming up empty.
