Warren and Kurt Johnson just debuted two brand new ones from Jerry Haas, and after the first round of qualifying at the Winternationals they are like #'s 5 and 6 with e.t.'s of 6.57 at over 210mph and great sub 1 second 60' times, been raining since Friday morning though and the race might get held up for a couple of days. Temps in the high 30's overnite and possibility of snow surrounding eastern LA county. Lots of pontiacs (GXP's) entered, Erica Undress is on a pole at 6.55 in the old Jegs Cobalt from Cagnazzi's stable.
Word I got from Haas and Bickle is that Pontiac actually built some 2010 G6 models, so that body is good through 2013.
The next best GM coupe would be he Cadillac CTS-V coupe. The Camaro poses a problem because the B pillar area tucks in too far from the top of the Quarter panel and NHRA won't approve changing the contour to accommodate the size tires PS requires. The Cadillac includes the B pillar blending straight down into the fender, like the Mustang

at the end of qualifying for the NHRA Winternationals today in Pomona CA. 10 of the 16 qualifiers are Pontiac G6 GXP's, 8 are listed as 2010 models, 2 are of `09 vintage and both non qualifiers on the 18 car entry list are Pontiacs also. one is listed as a 2008 (Mike Edwards) and the other is listed as a 2011 model,
probably just an unconcious mistake by the driver - Since Pontiac went out of business in 2010.
For what I think is the first time ever, a female has qualified in the number one position in Pro Stock at an NHRA national event.
The PR people will run with that if they can, it will be interesting to see if they mention how far out of the field she was last year while driving a Ford. She was also always a pack marker when her dad bought her a Mopar ride a while back, But since Fordce is the official vehicle of the NHRA, how will they reconcile her change in stature now that she is in a GM product?
