Post Pics--Aftermarket 17 inch Wheels..not an 18 or 19 inch fan..anybody have some cool 17's? Beside chrome stockers?
I got these 17's from Boyd Coddington. I like the looks but went thru hell getting the correct fitment, even though they said they had the "stock" fitment. Yes, these are 17 x 8.

Those Excel rims look like something I could use for track use. Cheap I don't mind. Any of them that get bent can be used for drag radials.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I have WS6 Pontiac rims. Link's in my sig.

nice wheels so far all. i don't like the 18"s either. many people go ga-ga over the OEM 18"s but i don't really care for them. i'm actually swapping out my 18"s for OEM 17"s. 17"s look better on the body style, IMHO. i'll keep my 18"s, though, for collector's purposes. i'm keeping my GTO for life.

cheers.

I really like those wheels. I too have been wanting a 17" wheel replacement. After seeing all of the 18" fitment issues and rubbing. Before get too deep into that topic. Do you have any fitment issues???

Thanks,
Garrett

You might just have to strike out on your own. A small percentage of owners are staying with a 17" wheel/tire combo. But, just wait a little longer. There are some people that have 17s that just haven't found this thread.

You do know that fitment/rubbing issues have nothing to do with whether you have 17"s, 18"s, 19"s, or 20"s, right?

As far as aftermarket 17"s on the GTO... why, little 8 lb 6 oz baby Jesus, why? These are large cars, and look kinda funny with tiny wheels IMO. Just my opinion, though, and if you like it, great - that's all that matters. Even my 18"s look too small on my car, so I ordered 19"s.

yes, i'm one of the few who prefer the 17s. the ones who complain, too, about the skinny tires, that is, the lo-profiled, no-sidewalled rubber band tires of the 18s --why do they like the 18s, then? the 18s and bigger 19s are really bling ride tires. and they're not for performance unless you increase the sidewall size and get lighter competition rims like TE37, CE28s, Work Emotions, 5Zigen, etc.

the big diameter street cruising heavyweight wheels are not for racing purposes. they're for bling effect. and are on the cartoony side. but hey, everyone has an opinion and taste. some larger wheels look great, but they are in the minority.

To go with a higher diameter tire/wheel would mean a smaller aspect ratio. Which would mean feeling every little bump and crack in the pavement. No thank you.

It would also mean a higher unsprung weight which would have a negative affect (or is it effect?) on handling/performance.

It all depends on what you are looking for and what your goals are.

Duhhh, tires are more expensive on 18" wheels? That's a factor to consider.
