Most people are having good luck with the 275s not rubbing. 285s might rub more. You are getting 9" wide rears then yes?

Nitto tires run 10 to 20mm under what they are specified. 285 Nittos are really like a 265.

I'm running 555R 315's on 17x9.5 Firehawk wheels on my Formula. They are a little bulgy but not bad.

I've got 275/40/18 Nittos on a 9" rim. 8" rim is not a good idea for a 275 tire. 285 will definitely rub.

I second this! I have the 275/40/17 555R's on my stock rear wheels. They look great and work great. The bulge is barely even noticable. Absolutly no problems even running them at 23psi and thrashing them all night at the track.
