Hey gang,

I went to the Vette vs Viper day at NED this Saturday and was able to get some passes in. Only 1/8 mile stuff because of a damp top end of the track but at least I got to test some new parts... :D

I'll get some ET's posted soon but I was SHOCKED at the race weight of this thing! :eek2:

3925 in full street trim!!!

Cripe, where are these 3500 pound weight GTO's I heard about???

I'm only 165 pounds so this thing is a f'king tank!

Anyone else weigh theirs on a certified scale???

Just gotta know!

Ed "need to lose 400#" Curtis :D

Mine was 3865 stock with me in it. 3780 after the mods (headers and race exhaust will save 40+ lbs) and standard weight reduction. Might save another 100-200lbs with more radical weight reduction - rear seats, trunk fuel tank brace (don't recommend this and might not pass tech), etc.

I've never heard of any 3500lb GTOs.

So Ed, what'd ya run? ;)
Well..... ;)

After a 125+ mile trip and a half hour cool down...

19 psi in the Nittos.
Decent burn out.
Idle launch.
First pass...
60: 2.017
330: 5.776
1/8: 8.831
MPH: 80.56

40 minute cool down
20 psi in the Nittos
No burn out/dry hops only
Slight brake loading
60: 2.033
330: 5.817
1/8: 8.880
MPH: 80.71

Needs a torque converter BAD!

42 minute cool down
Same everything
60: 2.038
330: 5.821
1/8: 8.887
MPH: 80.72

Obviously doesn't like to be preloaded on the stock converter.
Nice bracket car though... :D

1 Hour 10 minute cool down
18 psi in the Nittos
No burn out/dry hops only
Idle launch
60: 2.051
330: 5.834
1/8: 8.899
MPH: 80.47

Needs some tire spin....

1 hour 10 minute cool down
25 psi in the Nittos
No burn out/dry hops only
Idle launch
60: 2.046
330: 5.802
1/8: 8.845
MPH: 80.85

Seems to like 25 psi except for a slight hop on initial launch!
Need to get some race shocks to allow for some adjustability.

Last pass of the day in 100% street trip.
(Coolers and tools in the trunk :) )

35 minute cool down
35 psi in the Nittos
No burn out/dry hops only
Idle launch
60: 2.101
330: 5.899
1/8: 8.962
MPH: 80.80

Spun... :(

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not too bad considering the minor mods...
1) Well-used Nitto Drag Radials (Stock OEM size)
2) Home-made 4 inch inlet pipe (Plastic for now but aluminum in the works)
3) K&N Conical filter (fits like a glove on top of the stock air box)
4) Moroso Ultra 40 Wires (having a GTO specific set made custom)
These contributed to a drop in the 1/8 mile ET by .15 seconds and increased the 1/8 MPH by 1.5 mph.
This thing definitely needs two more items before I go back!
1) LS1 Edit to get rid of the f'king TQ Management system!!!!
2) A serious torque converter!!!!
I sell Dynamic, ATI and TCI so we'll see who'll help me out with the "project" car... ;)
Bet the six speed guys will have a real race then! Figure a mid 13 or quicker????
Hi Anthony,
I stopped dealing with Frank Lupo a while back after he had a run in with one of my good customers. From that point on, I've been working with Lenny (TCT) and Harold (Dynamic) for my Ford race stuff. :hail:
With this project car, I was looking into TCI (because of a good contact there) or ATI ('cause their stuff just flat out works!) or TCT/Dynamic because of the great support they always provide my Ford guys. I was even thinking of Yank but since I don't sell their stuff, so there's no bargaining chip for me to play. ;)
From the start, I probably should have said "TCT/Dynamic" but since DY might get upset for mentioning a non-sponsor, I left it a "little" vague. OOPS.. I did a boo-boo now! :secret:
Ed, I might be shooting you a PM soon. My converter builder isn't around anymore and I need to find someone who can build an efficient converter to my specs:D
Is a consistent little bugger isn't it :)
I just ran mine and it ran 13.6 with an 1/8 time of 8.8. So you should be in the ball park of 6spd cars right now. With a converter and TM gone, you'll be quite a bit ahead.
Congrats.
OK Artie...
I'm always willing to help anyone from this site!
BTW... I like your sig...
My company T-shirts have a similar saying...
"Talk is Cheap!
....Take it to the track and PROVE your point"
I'm tempted to toss in this Vigilante 3200 (an old favorite) into the GTO, but its earmarked for my LS1 Mustang project ;)
One of these days I'll hit the track and get my baseline run in with my car... Good runs, Ed...
