The next 2 popular models are the Escort and the BEL. (most commonly the RX65) - altho the new STi looks interesting.
There is a good test write up on all the current detectors here. (Click each red circle to read that section.)
I wouldn't skimp on your detector, while some can be pricey - even if they save you from ONE ticket, they generally have paid for themselves completely.
With a car that cruises very comfortably at 150mph you can use all the help you can get.
Note that triple-digit speeds, while tempting (and we all do it) can be a FELONY if your caught. (Usually considered felony reckless endangerment.) While the only people I have ever heard of actually being stuck with a felony charge for speeding have either tried to outrun the police or caused an accident, I would want to give myself every chance possible to avoid it.
Depending on what gear is used in your area, you may want to check into a Laser Jammer and/or Veil also.
I have the Escort 8500 X50. It has saved my ass countless times, twice just last night on the trip from Charlotte to Roanoke.
I chose it because my girl used to work at best buy and I got it for $175 . The X50, Valentine, STI or the BEL are all good coices, but the ONLY choices. Never skimp on your RD. And the laser detector is only a ticket detector. Laser doesnt work like radar. It will only go off when they are painting YOUR vehicle with Ladar. If they run alot of laser where you drive get a nice laser Jammer. They ARE legal (FDA regulated not FCC) and work. Check out radardetector.net for more in depth info.
I went with the Passport LS-7 with laser shifters. I've only been lit up once with the laser and didn't get pulled over. I was going well over a 100(coming home from my Borla install). It scared the crap out of me because I'd never heard that tone before. I'll assume for now it saved me as no ticket. I dropped speed 120 > 60 and dove into the flow of traffic(5 lane section of US-59). It's a hidden install for the radar detector head(behind grill) with veiled laser detectors/shifters(front & back). The grill mount is affected some by being behind cars etc as apposed to a windshield mounted detector but in Texas it's a sure thing if you are pulled over and they see the detector, you will get a ticket. The radar side has saved me again and again in trap areas
I'd go for the V1 as well. You should read up on radars/lasers @ www.radardetector.net
They have very good info on how all radar's work and how the cops use it and they can also help u beat a ticket incase u got one. Defintly check out that forum before buying/deciding on what to get.
