Reflash question

If I reflash my ECU with a Tech2 or a Clone version do I need the security pin, or is that not needed? I ask because the Diablosport i2 didn't work to reset the computer.

Thank you very much! Holy Hell that makes it so much clearer.
Could you or someone else use your software and connections to look up my IMMO? That's the only important piece of data the dealership didn't provide me for my 04. (I have the security card for the 06.)

i have a sneaking suspicion that if you did have a key code lookup done, you did get the code, it just wasn't called the "IMMO" code on the printout.

i think i got a "trunk" code with my 04 key code lookup, which made no sense to me at the time. going to look at it when i get home to see if it's 4 digits.
The only four digit codes I got were "radio PIN" and "GloveBox Code". The glovebox code was used to cut my glovebox keys. The sections left blank were VATS Code, Storage Key and IMMO Code.

ok, i just had the wife send me a snap shot. :ROFLMAO:

the "trunk key" code for my 04 is a 4-digit code.

you sure yours isn't, @Rich-Tripower ?

EDIT: well, it seems like it's the same code as the ignition key code, with the exception that the ignition key code has a letter in front of it.

well, there goes that idea.
I have a key code and a trunk key code, they are the same code and are five digits each and start with a letter.

I'm going to save that information to my 04 documentation. I have a Tech2 and it works well with that car.

Well, I was going to try to help. I have an old serial port to USB adapter. I bought it to connect my GTech to my computer but it never worked. I had to buy a specific cable for that use. Anyway, I plugged this spare into my computer to make sure it would be recognizable and it comes up with a message: "PL2303HXA PHASED OUT SINCE 2012. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER". So I concluded it wouldn't do you much good. But maybe it would work on an older computer like one runing Windows XP like you have? You can have it if you want to give it a try.

I tried to download a new driver that is supposed to make it work but I didn't have any luck getting the driver to install.

I have an old Dell laptop that has Windows Vista on it. I wish I could downgrade it to Windows XP somehow and make it useful again. Its a big heavy old brick.

Just buy a xp cd somewhere
But wouldn't I still be missing all the service packs? Can't download those any more and some of the later service packs really made XP shine.
If you get a USB-serial adapter, try to find one that uses the FTDI chip rather than Prolific. Prolific is more common but the drivers can be problematic especially with newer PC's.
100% on this. The one I mentioned above as not working is Prolific and the other one I have which works beautifully when I need it is FTDI.

It won't even fire or it starts and then dies?
Or the wiring. Computers can't talk to one another without a conduit.
It only took 12 pages and 4 months! Seriously, glad you finally found some success.

You should try it with the original PIM and see if it is any good.

Well ladies and gentlemen its finally finished and cranking over and starting like it should, so I'll make a separate post explaining all the steps to reprogram and link a ecu.
On a side not the reprogrammed ecu is showing a 2 bar map in its program and not a 1 bar
Yay! So are you going to work on building a tune yourself at this point?

No, I'm still having a tuner help
If you are still going with my guy at Barnyard Garage I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results. I'd like to know your feedback on working with him and with the resulting tune.
