What does a complete write do with hp tuners?

i guess the simple answer is that it should rewrite the OS as well as the calibration, but there's more data in the ECM than those things. you can't flash a blank ECM with HPTuners, for instance. you can with GM SPS.
i see your point, though. i think the likelihood that the corruption is somewhere in the calibration or the OS is really high. iirc i had suggested the same thing you did in the now deleted thread, but for some reason his tuner wanted him to have his ECM reflashed instead of trying to reflash his ECM himself with a fresh, stock tune file and starting over.
tbh, there is probably only a tiny bit of info hptuners doesn't touch. like, the ECM serial, maybe something reminiscent of a boot loader, just speculating here. if that itself was corrupted, his car probably wouldn't be starting anyway.

oh, also wanted to add, on some posts on hptuners forum, chris has indicated that depending on the ECM, not every portion of software is read or written.
for instance, when i was doing research on the slave os i came across this:

like the title says, I was playing around today and noticed that my 05 vette cal called for an ECM slave number, while my 08Z does not... so what's the purpose of that slave system one the E40 and why is it not on the E38? thanks!

Yes. Ultimately used a mongoose cable and it worked. Never went back to redo it with the nano. I was doing this all literally the week GM made the official switch to the new TLC software. So there’s no way to tell if my issues were device related or software related. The TLC software updated itself multiple times.
I was able to start by applying the VATS patches and disabling all the corresponding codes. The cluster will throw all kinds of errors/warnings each startup though.
FWIW, one of my original recommendations was to use a Mongoose cable…

Tech2 clone came in I just have one issue left which is running ACDelco SPS on it because my laptop doesn't have this connector does anyone know what it's called so that I can get a USB adapter

Well, I was going to try to help. I have an old serial port to USB adapter. I bought it to connect my GTech to my computer but it never worked. I had to buy a specific cable for that use. Anyway, I plugged this spare into my computer to make sure it would be recognizable and it comes up with a message: "PL2303HXA PHASED OUT SINCE 2012. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER". So I concluded it wouldn't do you much good. But maybe it would work on an older computer like one runing Windows XP like you have? You can have it if you want to give it a try.

I tried to download a new driver that is supposed to make it work but I didn't have any luck getting the driver to install.

But wouldn't I still be missing all the service packs? Can't download those any more and some of the later service packs really made XP shine.
Im sure its somewhere on the internetz
Old Toshiba laptop w/ RW-CD, serial port, USB and WinXP on my workshop bench for VZClusterMod, ScreamingEagle tooner, Appcar DiagFCA and other old toolz. Wi-fi long since disabled to keep it safe in its own little world. Have to keep it plugged in, battery lasts 32 seconds. 🦕
