Source a "new" E40 ECM?

So, I finally got the car to my tuner for the Safe Mode issue. The car has actually been running fabulous until now. A couple thousand miles and only 2 other incidents that went away upon restart. Today the issue came back something fierce. Tuner scanned it and believes it's the ECU that's shot.

Any reliable sources for ECUs? I found Flashmasters on eBay for refurb'd E40 ECUs but $450 is a big pill to swallow. Not including install, programming and re-tune. Anyone know of any other places or whether or not Flashmasters is even a good source to begin with?

Yep. 2005. You're amazing, thank you. I didn't even bother to check RockAuto thinking they wouldn't have it.
...aaaaaand you got the last one.

in existence.

Hahahaha. There's a core charge, so hopefully after I send my old one in, they can salvage it and re-sell it to someone who might need it.

Even more so, I hope this finally ends the saga of the "Safe Mode" gremlin.
Do you still have the original ls2 silver blade throttle body, when mine started to fail it would randomly put the car in limp mode. Just another idea for you to consider. I also bought a rock auto E40 a month or so ago it’ll come completely empty and your tuner will be able to load the vin straight in the first time he hooks up to it with Hptuners. But then he will have to turn off all the Vats stuff and do a crank relearn.

you can't flash a completely blank ecm with hptuners.

he'll have to flash it with the stock calibration via SPS and link it to his BCM and PIM. then flash it to his modified tune if he has one.

Changed out the throttle body. I went with the LS3 gold blade originally and it was fine for driving around town, but any time I went WOT, the car would instantly and consistently go into Safe Mode. Tried it over a dozen times and every single time it would go into Safe Mode.

Got an OE LS2 throttle body and it helped minimize the amount of times it would go into Safe Mode, but it still happens intermittently. Some days it’ll happen multiple times a day and then not do it for hundreds of miles after that.

Hoping this new ECU is the cure.
just read back through your old thread.

you threw everything and the book at this problem. crazy it's still going on.
EDIT Never mind, looks like you've already tried my suggestions!

Yea, I truly didn't want to admit that it was the ECU that was the problem, but it's likely the issue and really the only other thing I can think of. The biggest thing was actually finding one, which is why I'm so grateful that there was actually one available.

My tuner said he'd have no issues with doing the swap, I'd just need to source the new ECU.

I suggested increasing the "error values" or whatever HPTuners suggested, but he said even if that worked, it would just be putting a bandage over the problem. Before it goes into Safe Mode, you do start to feel some slight hesitation.
