For the Atlanta guys not wanting to go up to commerce or down to reynolds, not sure if yall know that Atlanta Motor Speedway has street style drags on pit road. Its an 1/8th and no tree, or times. Just a flagger and finish lights. Some pretty quick cars and trucks this year and several different classes. Just a fyi.

Hooked on Driving is a great organization to join up with for those who like to experience some top notch motorsport parks. Spent Friday down at the Roebling Road Raceway where drivers had a full day of 7 20-minute sessions in 3 different groups (A Beginner/Coach, B Intermediate, C Advanced/Modified). I road with group B and had an awesome time. By session 3, my DWS went from a faded W to a faded D which explains the spin between turns 3 and 4. Lesson learned, NO MORE allseasons. Hookedondriving.com has a great line up for 2012, check them out... and oh yeah, $250 lets you play

That sounds awesome, Pappy. $250 would be well worth it to ride with an instructor in my own car.

Chinmotorsports.com is one more great track day organizer. $50 gets you a 13 month membership. They have events set up at AMP, VIR, Sebring, Road Atlanta and more... $250 and up depending on the venue. Instructors are about $75. Unlike Hooked on driving, you must prove your skills before going solo or come with credentials. I'm shooting for at least 6 events this year. Start packing your PB&Js for lunch and put your lunch money in the glovebox so that you can make it out. Hope to see you there!!

NASA South East is running their holiday coupons again.
CMP and Roebling are $230.
Road Atlanta is $350.
AMP is on the schedule but registration is not open. Weird. Is the track done yet?
NCCAR is off this year's schedule, and Charlotte is solo-only again so HPDE3 and up.
Email them and tell them it's your first track event, they'll probably give you a discount too.

Great sounding new program at Atlanta Dragway starting March 2, 2012, Test & Tune on the nicest, best hooking and longest track in the area for only $20.00. Huge all paved pit area, 8 long staging lanes, a great facility that has been holding National events and everything from "PassTime" to "Pinks All Out" The "Super Heavy Shootout" every November, and the NHRA Southern Nationals for over 30 years. It is also home this season to the first ever Chevy High Performance Magazine Nationals in the first weekend of June. This will be bigger than the Super Chevy Races that used to come to Atlanta Dragway in the past BECAUSE it will include one of the 3 LSX Shootout national event races that are happening this season ( the other 2 are at Beach Bend Raceway / Bowling Green, KY in August and Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis in October.) These events are really cool for anything powered by an LS engine, There are tons of Camaros, Vettes, and GTOs and great displays of stuff for the LS engine fans.
The reason I posted this is because I have it on good authority that the Atlanta dragway staff is going all out on the Friday Night events for making it fun, safe, and affordable for everyday performance car fans. They even have an Autocross and Car show scheduled for that LSX event in June.
24 separate Friday test & Tune events already on the schedule for 2012.
I have been going to this track for over 20 years and can truthfully tell you that the friendly and competent people that are running the show for the last year are the best I have seen at Atlanta, ever.
They only enforce the safety rules for the good of the racer, and if your car is street legal, you have a valid license, and you bring a helmet, you can race your car on the same track that John Force, Warren Johnson and the rest of the professional drag racers that we hear of have raced on for years.
Street racing usually comes to no real good end and driving your car as fast as it will go on a quarter mile track, with no cross traffic, cops, or potholes, and on a track that is prepped by professionals with state of the art equipment means that the odds for a good time are heavily in favor.
They have separate programs for full on race cars on Saturdays and stuff, but the Friday night stuff is cheap, safe, and insanely fun. PLUS they actually time your car and give you a printed time slip for every run you make so you can track your progress or whatever.
Like my sig says, I have been at this for over 40 years, and it is cool to know we have access to a 1st class facility that is less than a mile from Interstate 85.

Has anybody on this site ever been to Lassiter Mountain Dragway near Mt. Olive, AL? Their first test & tune is Friday night (3/9) and I was thinking about going. Does anybody know if helmets are required for street cars? I checked their website and there wasn't much info there.

Thanks,
Mike
