Last weekend I finally got the free time to install the subs in my goat. Oh man does it sound better. Just need some more free time to put the infinity components up front in.









Man it sounds soo much better now.

The stock panel is covering it up. Have to trim off a few of the plastic clips on t he back and a bit of plastic on the bottom to make them fit though. Nothing that would be visible.

I used the demisions that were posted before. Great fit.

Just been wondering about rattles and the panel itself, since sound is pressure waves, is the rear panel open or atleast mostly open or what??

Like I said above, The factory panel is back over it. There is the small hole where the factory speaker was, but besides that it is solid plastic.

I do have one small rattle right now. It is not the boxes or the panels that cover them. It is something else but I haven't figured it out yet. Have not had the free time to inspect it enough yet.

I guess I should have also mentioned I unhooked the stock rear deck speakers. They are still in place because people said it helped block the loud fuel pump. It also ment not having to take as much apart.

Edit: Drawing a blank on the toal depth. Built them a few weeks before. Let me get back to you on this one.

Ok, I just fround my notes from before. The boxes are a total of 5 3/4" deep. I used 3/4" MDF so that gave 4.25" inside the box and 5" for mounting a sub.

People have been asking for more details on what I did. There were a few thing I wasn't expecting to have to do or to take so long. I should have taken more pictures of the things I had to tweak. I will try to fill you guys in now.
2x JL 10w1V2 subs and a RF P3001 Amp

I did the install over a few days.

-Firday- Deconstruction
Removed the seats, quarter panels, side door trim, and all the carpet from the trunk.

-Saturday-
I had already cut all the wood for the boxes the week before to get a head start. I build them and started trying to mount them. I had to drill the rivets out of the factory mounts first. I also ran all the wires for the amp and the carpc.

Passenger side
4 Guage power and sub speaker wire
Drivers side
Sub Wire, VGA cable, USB cable, Amp remote wire, carpc rga cables.

You can also see the line level converter sitting to the left of the amp connected to the factory amp wiring harness for signal.

Here you can see where 3 of the 4 rivelts are located.

They were a bit of a pain at first. They are lose enough to spin when you try to drill them out. I small pair of vice grips grabbed on the back solved that. Also, put a towel down behind there to catch the metal pieces so they don't drop down and in behind the outside panel.

The other thing I did was lay the left over dynamat on the rear wheel well inside here.



-Sunday-
Rained most of the day. I got the second sub mounted and realized I was going to have a problem with quarter panels hitting the box.
You had to clip off some plastic on the panels. There are clips that will go into the sub that use to attach to the metal bracket that held the factory speakers. They use to clip in here.


I also had to trim a bit off the bottom.
Since I don't have a picture here and couldn't find one quickly, I made a quick paint style image. Good old paint...

I had to remove that part becasue it was hitting the bottom of the box.

After carefully trimming all that I got one on! Yahoo! I turned it up and there was no rattling. I went on the the next one. This one proved to be a bit more of a problem.

-Monday Night-
This area of the arm rest where it dips in was hitting the top of the passenger side sub mounting ring.


I thought I had mounted the 2 boxes the same, but I guess not. I had to take it all apart and adjust the brackets so the sub box was positioned a bit further down and toward the front of the car so the panel would clip back into place ok.

I was able to fix this and get the rest of the panels back into place. I still haven't cleaned everything up. The trunk carpet is sitting in pile in the trunk and there is trash all over. Hopefully I can fix all of that tonight.

I personally have no idea. I have never gone to a shop for any stereo stuff.

I don't know how and don't really want to mess with it.

I'll find a way to make it work with MDF.

This is what I've got in the trunk now. I'm not afraid to make a few extra cuts if I need to:

Oh man, I love them! It sounds so much better than the single 12" I had in the trunk of my last car. The once I get the infinity's in it will be so much better. Thanks for posting the info from your build. I'm trying to give back any info I can for everyone else. Sure helps when you have a place to work from.

I finally got the trunk back together tonight. I still need to mount the amp somewhere but that is going to have to wait till I go back to my parents house again.

I started today gathering the materials for my install. I'll be using a pair of JL Audio 6.5" coaxials in the doors with JL Audio 6.5" mid bass drivers in the rear deck. Factory tweeters are staying in for now until I can make up my mind on what I really want in place of them. Likely Image Dynamics.

I'll be doing the rear side panel sub install as well with Autotek SS series 10's. I'm likely going to use the dual VC 2 ohm versions wiring back to a single 2 ohm mono at the amp.

Amp will be an Autotek MM8000.5 5 channel amp to drive the full system. I have always been impressed with Autotek amps so I am going to throw one in and see how it holds up. I've used Rockford, PPI, Fultron, Memphis, and Hifonics amps in the past so I thought I would try something else this time around.

Anybody have an idea what I'm looking at time wise here for the disassembly and install? Once I start I should have everything on hand and not have to make a run to the audio shop midway through. Is it possible to make an install like this in a Sunday-Monday period? Those are my 2 days off work and I hope to work straight through and get it done in that time frame.

Nice write up. Thanks for taking the time to post it up and take some pictures. I'll definitely be using this to help with my install as soon as all my components are here.

It took 2 guys with little experience about 9 hours to hook up my wired FM modulator, LOC, amp, and rear deck speakers. I imagine you can easily tackle yours in 2 days.

A couple days later it took my wife and I 3-4 hours to disassemble the rear sets and panels to hunt down some rattles then reassemble everything...
