GTOG8TA actually ordered the mount from rock auto. It came in a rock auto box. Wrong mount.Rockauto.
No I get that but I guess I should rephrase my question, what's actually different between the 2, I assume the bolt hole spacing?there are two different GM part numbers. which are both discontinued...
the aftermarket part numbers for auto and manual are also different.
so, they are not the same.
The problem is what is in the picture is not the actual item you are buying and what is in the box is not always what it is supposed to be. I went round and round trying to buy stock style solid rubber motor mounts and I kept receiving boxes marked with the correct part number but with the wrong part in the box which were oil filled mounts. I bought five different mounts from four different sellers and only one was a solid rubber mount. I could never find a pair of them so I returned them all and gave up.I dug around and found this on ebay, stating that it fits the manual transmission. Sure, it could be a typo, but it has a pic of the GTO, a T56 and a mount in the ad, so there's that.

I took that same part number and this appears to be the mfg website for Marmon/DEA. Their fitment guide at the bottom also says 04-06 GTO w/manual.

Lastly, that part number comes up as a cross-reference to the AC Delco version on Rock Auto. Apologies this is the same thing they shipped to you, but you didn't say exactly what you received via Rockauto. Still, the combination of these three links looks promising.

In closing, I save all of my old parts, usually in the box. If I can find it, I'll post up what I've used in the past (it wasn't OEM)
I agree to some extent. I had the same problem, but eventually got a pair of motor mounts (that ended in 'S', for solid) on the 2nd try but luck can be a fickle mistress. The problem is what is in the picture is not the actual item you are buying and what is in the box is not always what it is supposed to be.
