Not not be a buzz kill or anything but isn't there other sections on the forum where this thread would properly go?? I just don't see where this fits in the kill section....
Because the only people in the wheel/tire section are asking what wheels will fit their cars and what works on the track may or may not work on the street. Who better to ask what works on the street than the street racers?

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tires for me. Look them up, they hook real good but DO NOT hydroplane. I have tried.
I can vouch for the Vredesteins as well. 500/500 at the tire and these tires get it done. The best true "Street tire" I have used that isn't a drag radial.

Another tire I have had really good results with is the M&H 275-40-17 drag radial. I had a guy tell me they would "Hook in the shower", lol. I tried them and they do work really well, I have a set on my Welds now.

Oh yeah, almost forgot- Fist STFU!!

Normally I would agree- but by us Kill Section regulars jumping in immediately and commenting/helping him out we kept the mods from automatically sending it to the correct section. Though I have zero doubt that the Big Fish have there finger hovering over the "Delete Thread" button just waiting for a reason to nuke this one.

Are you shitting me? My sarcasm meter pegged out when he threw that "Vredesteins" name out there. I assumed that NO ONE would name a tire a name that directly brings to mind some black haired, 6' tall, curvaceous black leather clad S&M mistress holding a whip and speaking in a heavily accented 'Vlad The Impaler' voice.

^^^ Guess I've been spending too much time surfing the Pay-For-Access Adult Sites. :D

I called the Nitto customer service line today. The rep said I had the best tire for the application. Didn't really have an explanation. Said I was making too much hp.

Dunlop Star Specs in 265/40/17 for everyday driving, NT05R's for fun. I've tried a half dozen summer tires and the Star Specs, despite having a laughable name, are by far the best when it comes to traction, wet grip (astonishing wet grip really), wheel hop, and handling.

Been through alot of ice and 2 snow storms with my Star Spec's also: they perform one helluva lot better than I woulda thought. And I'm a 3600 stalled, hard shifting (kevlar bands+ reprogrammed trans ecu) cam'd auto.

Dunlop star specs
Falken Azenis Rt-615
Kumho Ecsta Xs

All have served me well in that order. Debating between another set of Specs or Yoko Advan 08's
Avoid Falken Azenis rt-615s

Did they grip well when i first got them? yeah
I drive a bit aggressively and I only did ONE 8+- second burnout on them and they only lasted 3 months before becoming bald! Not a fan, I am also currently lookin for a great street tire as the OP.

Dunlop star spec are terrific for 17 inch wheels: 265 / 40 / 17 = $161
Dunlop star spec suck for those of us with 18 inch wheels: 265 / 35 / 18 = $256
WTF!? $100 extra dollars for an extra rim and smaller sidewall? And the dunlops only come in specific sizes with small sidewalls, the smallest sidewall i'ld ever go is 40 so they're out for me. But to OP, good choice.
Tread rating : 200
Traction rating : A
Temperature : A

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s are nice, but for 265 / 40 / 18 = $283 per tire... a bit freakin expensive.. i'm use to paying average $150 *former 17 inch owner*
However, for OP the widest 17 they make is 255 / 40 / 17 and that's $250 :bomb: I'ld definately look more at the star spec for your application.
Tread rating : 180
Traction rating : A
Temperature : A

Now the tire I'm definately lookin into and hear nothing but great reviews .. ever is the Continental DW
265 / 40 / 17 = $165
265 / 40 / 18 = $237
They have the best tread wear rating of the three tires mentioned 340 with an AA traction rating. And this is the only performance tire I've seen which comes in nearly ANY size. The others are all very limited. I could even get a 275 / 45 / 18 from Continental if I wanted :hbang: but i'ld need a wider rim than the stock 8" to do that. I have 5/16 pedder drag springs and plan to get drag bags, 275 / 40 / 17s never rubbed unless I had a fat bitch in the rear seat. I chose the tire size 265 because that's the overall best fitting tire for the width without sidewall bend nor fender rub for most gto applications, not just my own.
Tread rating : 340
Traction rating : AA
Temperature : A

I've been killed many a times due to wheel spin mothersmurfing kdws!
I hope this bit of light research I've done assists the OP.
Happy hunting

you get what you pay for & by the way you can not compare tread wear & traction ratings between different manufacturers. the ratings are only comparable in the same brand.

dunlop is part of goodyear.... and IIRC the GSD3 was rated at a better tread wear than the Star Specs.... yet the Star Specs have at least twice the tread life

Also Nick, 40 for sidewall is a percentage of the width not a set size. The same sidewall of 40 would be different in a 235 and a 265. That's a 12MM difference in height.

If they are different brand tires it might not be that big of a difference.... I had 275/40/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's and they were the same height/width as 255/40/17 Dunlop Direzza Star Specs

Yeah I'm aware, my point still stands, I won't go with a sidewall below 40.

As for the tread rating, i honestly thought it was determined by the distributors because i saw variations based upon different companies, the more you know.

They are a track tire not a strip tire. Roasting them for 8+ seconds will do nothing but harden the compound once they cool and you get no grip. Wasn't the tires fault this happened, it was the operators. Use them for what they're meant for.

I've had mine for two years and 13k miles and will get another summer out of them. Grip as well as they did on day one. I use the tires for what they are designed to do and blast on and off ramps and love tight corners. I hit them hard with 265's on all four corners. And i can rotate since they're on 9.5 all around.

Great tire when using them for what they're designed for and worth the money.

I like my Nitto NT555 summer tires... I run 275/40/17s in the back and they are a great tire. They have lasted about 15k miles, almost a year... and that was having fun with them at the track every once in a while. Great in wet weather also...
