I've read all of the threads so far about wheel offset and was not able to discern if anyone has successfully installed 18x8/18x9 wheels with a +38 offset.

Anyone attempted and had problems?

I got this from another thread on this board:

WIDTH..........OFFSET............WIDTH OF TIRE
7.0...............+26/+65.............215/225/235
7.5...............+33/+61.............215/225/235/245
8.0...............+39/+55..............225/235/245
8.5..............+45/+48..............235/245/255
9.0.(MAX).........+48................245/255
REAR ONLY
8.0................+36/+65.............245/255
8.5................+42/+65...............245/255
9.0.................+48/+65...............255/265/275
9.5................+55/+64...............265/275/285

OFFSETS GREATER THAN SHOWN ABOVE WILL RUB ON REAR

Yeah, I read that one too. And going by that table it looks like only the 18x8 wheel will work, and that is with a mm under the shown limit (+38). 18x8s all around would be bad, but I sure like the look of the wider rear wheel/tire combination.

Thats the one...

Like you, I tried to verify the listing but had no luck. Not sure where they hid it.

I think that chart was just made up.

I don't make things up. It's from the dealer/installer side of Discount Tire Company (www.dtdwholesale.com). I was not aware it was not on the retail side.

Also, with a 9.5" wide wheel, what's not to believe of 64mm? It only sticks the wheel in 1.37" over stock, there is room under there. Someone on here tested corvette wheels at 9.5" and they are 61mm offset...

I was under the impression from many months of discussions on this board that 275's were the biggest you could go without suspension modifications.

I'm sorry I jumped the gun. I over reacted and I sincerely apologize.

Like I said in the other thread...I have a hard time believe it. Another question I just thought of is, do wheels in that size actually exist? I've never seen a wheel with that big of an offset to my knowledge.

All I can tell you is that it's a direct cut and paste from the Wholesale Tech notes on their fitment testing results on a 2004 GTO.

Very few wheels exist in that size and offset - only the Corvette and F-bodys really have wheels that extreme, and most aftermarket ones stick the rim out more with a lower offset.

Also, 265mm, 275mm, 285mm tires, it's all realitive. Some 275mm tires are as wide as some 285mm tires, etc. I think 285 is stretching it from my measurements, and REALLY limits the wheels/offset you can use...

I believe the numbers from the chart. There is way more room to move a tire inboard in the rear.

That is why you can have such massive offset. The problem is no one is making rims in 5x120 with offsets that high, especially in 9 or 9.5 width.

This whacky wheel design we have is one of the greatest dissapointments of our car IMHO.

We would have had a ton of choices if they would have used the standard 5x4.75 pattern and normal RWD offsets instead.
