I broke it. :)

Not that bad though. Little FYI if anyone should attempt something like this down the road.

You will need to machine a support bracket for the blower pulley. Extending the offset .700" places too much load on the bearing cassettes. Compressor has been back to Whipple now for about a week. Due to ship in a couple days.

Roughly $1200 to fix so its worth getting this right from the git go. I wondered how it'd work, but it seemed great so I let it go. Started making some really wierd sounds when I began driving it this spring.

Lesson learned. Once again, experience is never cheap. lol.

Did some math and bounced it off a close buddy who's an aerospace ME. With the data inputs (some estimated, but I know were pretty close) this aparatus I've made imparts a 617lb angular load upon the blower drive pulley.

It's a lot to ask from a pair of big "skate board" bearings sitting almost 2.5" behind the pulley. A big moment...

For anyone wondering what a moment is. Just know this: They are bad and they suck.

So, Part is modeled, I'll whip it out this weekend.

If anyone goes down the wabbit hoe of hot rodding a car and expecting to not break anything, they are in for some disappointment.

There's two types of gear queers:

1. Those who have broke stuff.
2. Those who will break stuff.

lol.

Considering I designed and built this blower drive myself from scratch and was told by the manufacturer (and a number of others) that it was impossible to make this work, I think I'm getting off cheap.

$1200 is a pretty trivial R&D cost when your into it now almost 6 figures. (figuring engine, design, programming, materials, tooling, fixturing, and machining/revision machining costs here)

This is what happens when your just too dumb to quit. :)

Whipple confirmed today that it'll ship tomorrow and be arriving Sat am at the house.

Just in time...


We got 18" of SNOW yesterday. ($%*&(#@ weather here!) So, not likely to be driving it for another week or two.

Good luck...
Always better to be lucky than good. :) This seems to have solved it. Saturday's project. Started early on the bracket at 6am. Blower arrived at lunch time. Had it back on in 3 hours ready to fire. Finished the bracket around 8pm. Installed it and was running by 9. An extra pair of hands is priceless. Old Marine buddy came down for the weekend and helped. Big thanks to Shane!

Drove it yesterday some with a few good hits. Had to shim the mount a little, but that was it. Fixed a bunch of little things with his help that needed attention. (exhaust bracket and some tune work with idle and cold start)

Feels like a totally different car now. Power is absurd. Instant and full of hate.

Ready for some track runs finally. -if the weather ever decides to get off its PMS streak. 18" of snow last WEEK and now its "Cambodia monsoon."

This damn place....

great work on the bracket but please loom the wires on the back my eyes skip the beautiful milled aluminum and get stuck there. Haha

It's on the list and I have the stuff. Once this thing becomes fully trustworthy I'll handle it. Just want the easy access in case the wheels fall off again. This thing is kind of a real bitch to work on with all this crap stuffed in there.
