I just wanted to know if cleaning my wheels with windex will harm the chrome.
It comes out really nice.
Thanks.

Most wheels are clear-coated.
Don't use anything on your wheels that you wouldn't use on paint.
Windex is mainly amonia, so it shouldn't harm the clear coat.
But it will take off wax.

I use the same things on my wheels as I do on the paint, wax, auto wash,
polish.........

The only cleaner that I have heard specific cautions on is Simple Green.
It is a corrosive to aluminum, and many people are suspicious of its long term
use on paint.

Amonia can turn things white.. i use glassplus or eagle one on rims, and no papertowels, its like fine sandpaper.. i usually use it with the chami or soft rag/cloth.. but to each his own ;)

Interesting... that's what I've always used as a pre-treater when cleaning my wheels. I've never noticed any problems, but that could be because I've always had painted or clear coated wheels, or could be that I alway follow up with soap/water. Stuff works great at breaking the dust free. I would not use that stuff near paint unless you plan on waxing immediately after. Most boat owners at my old marina used this stuff exclusively on the boats due to it's environment freindly nature. I haven't heard of any real issues with the fiberglass gel coat on the boats..... that would lead me to believe that it's not too harmful to finishes.... most of those guys make auto enthusiasts look normal :p

Amonia is not a positive thing for plastics, or so I have been told. My wife would dispute that, she uses Windex to clean everything. Maybe she is just demonstrating independence???

The Simple Green thing came out of a long thread on the C5 Registry list. Several US Navy staff reported that the Navy had banned Simple Green from even being on an aircraft carrier. They did not want it anywhere near an aluminum plane.

Showing my advanced state of paranoia when it came to my cars,
I immediately stopped using it.

Are you saying that my wheels have wax?!! Maybe it's my lack of knowledge but I didn't know that chrome wheels would have wax.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

If your Chrome wheels don't have wax they should. It protects them just like your paint. A good sealant, NXT, Zaino, Poorboys, Clearkote works best, lasts longer on a wheel then carnauba. I wash the wheels on my cars, 2 have chrome, 1 has painted, is to wash the wheels with my regular car wash soap but I use a seperate mitt just for the wheels. If you want to use a "Wheel Cleaner" I would stick with a name brand "Wheel Cleaner" not something from the household cleaning closet. If you are REALLY interested in Detailing check out www.autopia.org it's a detailing site with tons of good info.

I've heard use amonia free products on cars. Never heard why though.
Where did you get that cold air kit in your pic? It looks really clean.
