Cam install question.

I live about three and a half hours from the shop, so it is not like I can just drop my car off and get a ride home. I was wondering is it possible to install a cam and re tune the car in one day or is that an unreasonable amount of time?

They should be able to install a cam, springs, pushrods and tune the car in one day.

Cam install and tune is about 6~8 hours if no issues are found. Best bet is to ask the shop how long they will need the car.

Some tuners like to keep the car overnight to really sink their teeth into the cold start and idle stuff.

We also require a couple days to ensure start-up and all is good. To do it in one day, you really just don't have enough time to focus on the tune like it deserves, in my opinion!
This is one of the things that was stressed when I attended Ben Strader's EFI 101 classes. You usually only get one, maybe two, crack(s) at a car per day when everything is ice cold, and sometimes everything that's out of whack can't be dialed in during a single warm up. Blunderbuss cams with a lot of reversion tricking the MAF can be challenging when it's 20 degrees out.

last time i did a cam install in an ls2 it took me about 5 hours for cam and springs (first time ever) i had my lift, air tools and patience...

the tune we worked on for prolly a month before it was 99% right (all street).

Can it be done in a day. Ya. Will it be the best tune. Probably not.

It's amazing what a little meth can do for your productivity.
