if i remember, i think it is brand specific...so if it is a sony, you need a sony adapter

if you have that, then just see if you can hold the tape in for a second or two to see if it stays

 

I tried the same thing one in a friend's Saturn. It kept popping the tape out because of the head cleaning feature built into the tape deck. It may be a situation like that.

I used to use those adapters. I don't think they are unit specific but I do remember the wire causing some decks to eject the tape because it never really seats and the player thought it was 'bad'. I think you can still buy the adapters, it is just a cassette with another head in it that transmits the information to the tape head. Maybe a different adapter will work. Look at how the wire fits in and look for on that doesn't stick.

 

check the wire position.

on the 'tape' itself, there are two relief grooves where the wire can rest, to avoid triggering the eject mechanism.

one is along the 'spine' of the tape - oriented that way for side slotted tape players.

the other is along the 'side' of the tape for long slotted players.

make sure the wire going from the tape to the player is in the correct position and it should work.

I think it was my 1996 GTP. In the owners manual it told you how to "set" the tape player so it would not eject the adapter. It was something like holding the eject button when you put the adapter in.

You might check the owners manual to see if there is such a setting.

 

It was typically on GM vehicles, it was a function of the factory head unit, it senses a "load", and tries to eject, some of them simply just sat there swapping "sides" of the tape, I think this started with GM vehicles in the mid-90's.

 

If you cannot get it to work, Circuit City and Best Buy often have deals on CD players installed for less than $150.
