Hello,

Do you forum members think that the 1.7 LS2 Yella Terra Rockers are worth the investment on a head/cam tuned LS2?

Youre not going to see a gain with same ratio rockers, but they will quiet the valvetrain a bit. If you dont upgrade to YTs you should at least upgrade the trunions in the stock rockers.

Nope, do the trunion upgrade on the stock rockers.

I'm not a fan of aluminum rockers. They have a tendency to break.

I believe there been a many of thread about YTs breaking correct? I dont recall seeing many stock rockers breaking. I'd say upgrade the springs, but if you're pushing over 500 to the wheels then maybe upgrade the rockers but not YTs. I've seen to many people making threads about their YTs breaking.

The majority of the YTs that broke were from a small run on a new machine that wasn't set up correctly. They got mixed in with good YTs produced on older machines. That was several years ago. The Scorpions are the rockers to stay away from. They have tried version after version to stop theirs from breaking.

I am not bashing YTs at all, I know many guys run them with no problem. The facts in my case are, however; I had 4 YTs break (was running an X5 cam with fairly high lift + aggressive lobes), the last time one broke metal from the YT somehow worked its way down into the engine and destroyed my cam and lifters, hence my rebuild at the moment. The stock rockers and a trunion kit would get my vote.

You broke four? :bomb:

Your valvetrain might of not been set up properly. Ive been using YTs for over a year now with a large cam (239/242 .651/.610). I switched to Patriot Gold Extremes at the same time, and Ive had significantly less problems than before (Ive tried various Comp and Crane valve springs, and broke a "few").

What would be a better rocker to go with? "Harland Sharps" ?????

YT's with the shaft drive set up looked pretty good, but thanks for the input, J.

The more lift you run the more you will want to run the YT's. At .600 lift and under stay with the upgraded stock.

You should be running the YT, or any aftermarket rocker arm as part of a valvetrain package: the springs, ti retainer, valves and the rocker arms, but most importantly it must be set up properly by someone who know what they are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not had any issues with my YTs and I have seen plenty of the upgraded trunions and stock trunions fail. The YTs are a quality piece and I noticed a difference in throttle response as soon as I installed them. I read somewhere that they move the valve off the seat faster and that the stock rockers bring the valve off the seat at a 1.54 ratio and don't reach a 1.7 ratio until somewhere around .400 lift. I will try to find where I read this and post it.
Also, if you have bronze guides you will want to use an aftermarket roller rocker. The stock rockers have an issue with sideloading and will cause the guides to wear prematurely also causing the valve seat to deteriorate. Pushrod length and geometry should be checked to ensure proper installation.

Thanks every body for the INTEL, i'm going to try i set of YT's out!!!!

If you do run them make sure you check the wipe pattern and then for pushrods length. every setup is different and will need to be checked. I ended up needing a .079" shim under the stands to make for a nice wipe pattern.

I have been running the Crane Golds for over 30k miles with no issues. May be a different option to look at. Really quieted down the valve train.
