New PBR brake rotors rusting...what to do??? Pics inside

So I have installed my PBR brake upgrade on my 04 GTO and am having a problem with the rear. The rear rotors are larger than stock, but the pads and calipers are not. This means that I have about 1/3 of the rotor that the pad does not come into contact with, so when the rotors get wet and rust, there is a portion that the rust stays on which is exactly what happened. It has been raining and the rotors look much worse than these pics from a few days ago, but they are only to show the portion that is not in contact with the pad.

Now I am wondering what I can do to prevent this from happening. The obvious solution would be to try to paint the area that is not in contact with the pad, but I am afraid that I would get paint on some of the used surface and the whole thing would turn into a big mess. Does anyone have any suggestions on what can be done here?

I see nothing wrong with scotchbriting the area in question. Taping off the area and clear coating it or using high temp engine enamel.

Or try larger pads, though I'm not sure what you could use.

good luck, remember any paint on the useable surface won't last long.

tape it off or just paint it and let the pad eat it. I would replace the pad after that but it really won't hurt anything.

Slammin86:

The paint on my 315 PBR rear discs goes up further into the disc than the one pictured and I don't have the rust. The contact area of the pad is just under 1.5", and the painted area to the base of the disc is 3/4". Looks like you need some high temp. paint. Also, I had mine professionally installed, but from the look of the pic. it seems that your caliper isn't as close to the rotor as mine. Your contact area looks narrower. That's just a visual guess. Perhaps the measurements above will help.

Can you get me some pics?

Yeah - mine don't look like that, either. :(
I think I will just use a brush and try to paint mine on the car and keep it free from the surface where the pads contact the rotor. Will I be ok if I do this? I do not want to change the pads after I do it, will a little bit of paint on the pad hurt anything?
