Why don't more people use the TCI Torque Converer?

Is there a reason why more people don't use the TCI torque converter? It seems like an awesome piece for a great price. If there is any reason as to why more people don't use them, please let me know.

If not, then why spend the extra $2XX for the same quality?

Back in the mid and late 90's I fell for that, "Awesome piece for a great price!" Bottom line I got what I paid for, and that was a bunch of junk. I personally have used B&M, TCI, GER, BTE, Neal Chance, and Yank converters. I have only used the Yank product in the GOAT, and after having to send it back to get restalled, I am now happy with it.

My first choice was Neil Chance or BTE, but they unfortunately don’t sell torque converters for the 4L65E. Nothing against Yank, but I have had great success with Chance and BTE. Anything and everything I bought from those two company’s (Chance and BTE) have never had any issues what so ever, and went through allot of abuse.

In other vehicles I have owned I have eaten allot of $$$$ when dealing with that converter for a great price deal. I CAN TELL YOU THIS THOUGH.... After replacing converter after converter and tranny after tranny out of another vehicle I had, I did what so many others did right the first time. Called Marty or the guys at BTE and had dropped some big $$$$ for a product that was yes, very expensive, but worked beyond expectations. Fact is there is allot of people out there that have no idea what a good and correct torque converter feels like. And given that the torque converter is more important than allot of other factors when it comes to getting power to the ground, why cut the corner and gamble?

Like Tapout said, I decided to do it right this time too. Went to all the majors and dutifully typed in all the specs they want to design a TC specifically for my application. Hit submit and waited. Only one actually responded: Fuddle. So he's got my business for now, if he gets around to sending it to me.

If he doesn't get it to me soon, then it's cancelled and I'm calling around to see who has anything in stock they can overnight. Because I've got to race on June 28th, and hopefully get some T&T in before that.

Was it John Cameron you talked to? He helped me out w/ my converter so far as well. In fact he is maintaing the warranty status on a converter i bought from another forum member. Now how stand up is that? Its my own fault not checking to see if it had the upgraded heavy duty converter clutch. Weight of our cars matter when it comes to converters. (Rookie mistake) Fuddle has my buisness for now as well.

Although I have never used a TCi, I had an awfull experience with B&M convertor, and I'd rank them and TCI at the same level.
I bought a B&M convertor, and it blew apart within a week, sending lots of little metal pcs into my trans for my 700r4 at the time. Fortunetly jegs refunded the money for the converor, but I was out of pocket for a $1200 rebuild, and then another $500 for an Art Carr convertor. (which was one of the best at the time)
Lesson learned- I will not skimp on another convertor, since there is too much to risk.

Thanks to you all for the in depth explanation! You guys really helped me out!

I am either going to get a fuddle 3000 stall or a vigilante 2800-3000 stall, any input as to quality vs. price?

I figured it was shipping. Lately everything I have shipped or ordered has been late. Not sure why. Where can I find a copy of 'The Legend" or is it an article in itself? Good luck btw. I always thought you needed a higher stall. If I remember correctly you were running a Protorque 2800. Are you going to start launching at 3k or better now or stick to the same "tap and roll into it method"?
