Just curious if anyone has ever thought about this or wanted one because personally i've always wanted one like these . Obviously i'd want it to look better then these \/ but thats what i mean. .
Anyone ever consider a billet shiftgate for our cars to replace the leather bag thing

And with that kind of slotted gates no way you'd botch a shift, especially a lower one when near redline. It'd just have to mimick the internal gates, that's all.
I just don't know how it'd look on the GTO, with the more 'upscale' interior than a bare-bones exotic. Maybe all in black??

The Tibby community tried this and found out the the shifter assembly sat rotated from center line. Instead of having the nice, clean "HH" look, it had to be rotated and looked like crap.
I would love to have one of these in my car, so hopefully someone can fab one up. Good luck!
I bet it would be noiser than hell with the added road and tranny noise absorbed by the boot coming through, not to mention the lever rattling agains the gate plate. Sure looks good though.
my concern would be with heat comming from it and how it would look when you looked into it. its not very pretty under the center console.... but it would be cool!
I'm thinking with a torquey motor, there might be a little too much rotation of the trans for decent alignment without different motor mounts. Ferraris and Lambos don't even mount the shifter to the trans AFAIK. Totally remote. Besides, those cars never make it to the drag strip.
I still find it bizarre they have the 1-2 shift like our 2-3 shift.
Another issue would be that we'd need a whole new shifter. The only thing that would come close to looking decent sitting in one of those things would be the GMM race.
I'm still playing around with this and don't know if i'll try to make it. I might even make a whole shifter but now that there are 4 shifters being maybe i'm not so sure. I'd have to make a new shift rod that is thinner but at the same time stronger so that it would clear the shift gates. Maybe i can make GMM quality for $250 instead of their $300 something
