How much HP will a ported FAST give me over a ported LS2 intake with stock internals?

If you look at my sig, then you'll see that I have all of the external engine bolt-ons for my GTO (not including an electric water pump). I'm thinking about upgrading my ported LS2 intake to a ported FAST intake since I read the following quote from Ron@Vengeance:

Ron@Vengeance said:
A ported FAST will definately benefit you more than a stock FAST, even on stock internals... We have seen 15rwhp across the board on stock internal combinations...
Since I already have a ported LS2 intake, how much rwhp should I expect with a ported FAST? Also, will I gain any horsepower if I upgraded my ported stock throttle body to a Nick Williams throttle body? Thanks in advance for the info.

I say stick with what you got I don't believe the little extra HP is worth all that money. If you wanna spend that money spend it on something that is worth more for the 800 or whatever its gonna cost. Hell you can get a cam setup for less than that then you just need install money. However if you do get it I might be willing to take that stock ported one off your hands.

I'd say 15~20 HP if you're lucky

You'll see a gain ...I'd guess 10-15whp tops but it will really shine if you decide to get a nice size cam.

You'll see a gain, but your performance/cost ratio would be better with a cam and supporting parts. You'll see bigger and more robust gains.

Usually you want to add a FAST 90 when you are out of options for making hp, on your planned combo. Or if you have money to burn and you want to pay for the extra hp.

It's going to add power, but at a cost.

Btw did you dyno just the ported ls2 intake? I have heard porting the ls2 intake doesn't yield any tangible gains.

LS2 intake manifold porting has proven to increase HP. You might be thinking of the LS6 intake manifold, those don't make much extra from porting. Remember, the LS6 intake flows better than the LS2.

Actually porting the ls6 intake does provide some gains. Up to and over 10 rwhp, across the board. I ran one on my bird and it helped me pull 344 rwhp SAE with shorties. Cartek and New Era are two that do it, I heard ls2portworks will also.

I'm talking about the ls2. From a reputable tuner, I have heard there are no appreciable gains. All they do is port the END of the runners a bit. They can't get up into the runners. Basically a port match, with nothing to match to (ie, no heads are used to port match). Even in theory doesn't sound like you can gain much if any tq.

I have a FAST ported by Vengeance. It is great mod but I don't know if the dollar per horsepower gain is worth it until you install a cam or unless you have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket. If you don't have a cam install planned in the near future I'd use some of the money for a shifter upgrade like the GMM race or street. Just my 2 cents worth !

Hello all,
I just wanted to let everyone know that we are able to handle all of your porting needs in regards to manifolds (LS2/LS7 $300 and LSX $350) and throttle bodies (LS1 $125 and LS2 $150). We have seen numerous competitors work from all over the country and feel we are the most aggressive porters that will get the largest gains.
Here is where we stand we have ported over 110 LS2 manifolds and average 11RWHP and 13RWTQ, over 20 LS7 manifolds avg 16RWHP and 19RWTQ, over 20 LSX manifolds avg 10RWHP and 10RWTQ (we have a new port design that we are certain will better these figures for the LSX manifold).
The stk throttle body shields the opening until about 40% throttle. We alter the design significantly and your lower end is improved greatly with much more bottom end because you get more air at a lower throttle opening. This mod is decieving though the WOT gain is less than your butt dyno will lead you to believe. We average about 4RWHP and 4RWTQ we have seen some freak gains of 13RWHP and 13RWTQ on an LS7 (they tend to average more about 7 and 7)
I had an LSX manifold w/ a 78mm top and then went to an LS2 TB and LS2 intake about 2.5 years ago. I felt like I lost about 50RWTQ in the bottom end and the reason was the TB and the shielding of the lower end throttle response, of course I did lose a bit of power from the manifold but that would not as drastically affect the response.
I hope this helps some of you. I know we are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.
Thank you all and God Bless

I would say that Jeremy is a reputable tuner. "Here is where we stand we have ported over 110 LS2 manifolds and average 11RWHP and 13RWTQ." That looks like appreciable gains to me.

I have personally talked to Jeremy and he is not convinced the LS6 intake benefits much from porting, but he admits that he's only ported one LS6 intake. If you have some data that suggests otherwise, please post it.

Well, looks like New Era claims 5-10 HP on the ported LS6 intake. Reckon any ported intake will show gains if done right.

I just go my results today from my ported fast. I went from 423rwhp 389rwtq to 442rwhp 413rwtq. I also had to go bigger injectors, and had the cats removed. The numbers would be a little higher but I had 3.91 installed that accounts for a small loss. Just to give you a little idea. Hope this helps.

I do agree that you should go heads and cam first. At least cam.

Ported FAST intake will get you about 20-25rwhp

LT Headers will get you about 25-30 rwhp

Cost is about the same.....

Come to think of it, the ported FAST might actually be a pretty good value considering that they're currently only $879 and the installation price for it is only a fraction of the price to get headers installed.

its a 20 hp gain on a stock motor...proven......now if you have head and cam...the fast is much better than a ported ls2 manifold..and you still get over 20 over the ported ls2.....if your engine need to breath more...then the fast is superior to the ported ls2..... you'll see at lest 15 over stock and with free flowing head and a cam i'd say 20-25 over a ported ls2 manifold...thats significan't
